The ideal client, my colleagues tell me, is someone who respects the boundaries of the relationship, knows when and how to use their therapist (we tell you) and tries to do "homework," the assignments talked about in therapy that are likely to help. Mostly there isn't any! And it doesn't matter anyway. People come to therapy because they need it, not because they want to hang out, and they want something to change, not only in others, but in themselves. Therapy is, or should be, a safe place. Most seasoned therapists are still in it because they find it effective and personally gratifying. I guess I'm one.
Mostly you'll find me honest, straight talk, but gentle. Assessments take about three visits, which helps us both understand what you really need, if you want to meet every week, or not, or maybe twice a week, and if you want to bring others into the room. I only take BCBS PPO insurance unless you are paying out of pocket-- something to know before calling.
What's unique about me? Maybe being from a medical family, and having taught grad school, much to pass on. Being a chameleon works, having poor boundaries, oddly enough, is a plus in this field (that's kind of a joke, but not entirely). I'm the mother you never had, the sister, the girlfriend, daughter, mentor. It can be hard.
