An area of focus in my practice is working with parents, couples and families in times of adjustment and transition, particularly in the early years of parenthood. Parenthood can be very demanding especially when you're trying to maintain a career and relationships with your partner, family and friends. I work with clients to give them communication tools and self-care strategies as well as increasing self-awareness and personal insight.

Having a background in grassroots and non-profit work as well as teaching, so I am fiercely passionate about equity, social justice and liberation for all people. I exclusively provide video/online sessions for couples and individuals who want to learn and practice skills to enhance their relationships and communicate better. I use proven, research-based techniques to help you get better results in the context of all your relationships. I listen to you, but also, I am very interactive and provide feedback.

I'm Will and I'm a therapist; but, you may also want to know that I love Star Wars, Harry Potter, hot sauces, Bay Area Sports, and the outdoors. In no way do we have to have similar interests but I find that I relate to the world via my experiences and what I'm attracted to. What I'd really like, is to give you a sense of what being in therapy with me would be like, but I am aware of some of the limits that reading a profile and looking at a picture has. I view mental health similarly to physical health: when there's an injury or illness, seeking professional intervention, guidance and support can improve overall wellness.

I am a family therapist and my approach to psychotherapy has been shaped by over thirty years of work with addictions. Helping clients into Recovery has led to a special understanding of the complexities of relationships and the processes of change for individuals, couples, and families. I have spent most of those years seeing couples and families in San Francisco's wonderfully diverse cultural landscape. I am no stranger to the complexities of gender, class and ethnicity as they influence the work of family or individual therapy.

I support young people to find their voice, become more self confident, and communicate in a way that expresses their needs. Many times there is a disconnect between behavior and desires. I work closely to increase awareness of why these behaviors are happening and encourage an awareness to begin to identify triggers, with an overall goal of self awareness and self control.

It is easy to feel stuck, confused, or overwhelmed, when dealing with the many challenges that life throws at you. I work with transitional age youth, college students, adults, LGBTQIA+ folks, and monolingual Spanish-speakers. My approach is non-judgmental, collaborative, and sometimes humorous. I aim to create an affirming environment where you can openly discuss your stressors, preferences, questions and everything in between.

I believe that mental health issues arise when we are faced with overwhelming emotions in isolation. Without the necessary support, emotions get so big and daunting that we defend ourselves against them, leading to numbness, anxiety, and depression. My goal is to invite intense emotions into the room so that we can learn to regulate them together and they can be reincorporated into the psyche, leading to a fuller and healthier life.

In my practice, I specialize in working with individuals or couples who are feeling anxious or depressed, individuals dealing with stress and burnout, new and expectant parents, those who are dealing with loss, issues with self worth, and people from dysfunctional family systems.

As your therapist, using mindfulness and a caring presence, I will accompany you on the road to personal growth, supporting you in understanding how you can become appreciative of your behaviors: they helped you come this far! We will explore how you can see your life through different, enriching perspectives to include multiple ways of being in relationship and acting in the world in a more satisfying way for you.
