My approach to therapy is based on making an empathetic connection, promoting awareness and relational growth. I have a holistic perspective, believing we are our own best resource for growth and healing. I am skilled at providing an open and compassionate space in which to connect with what is most important to you. For therapy to be meaningful and therefore useful, I have found techniques less important. Instead, I emphasize skillful use of the therapy relationship to work deeply with a wide range of issues, challenges and presentations - honoring diversity in my work with people, ideas and identities.

As a practitioner with over 9 years experience, I do my best to present as honest, straight forward, trustworthy and safe right away. I enjoy working with adults who are bravely working through past trauma in order to better understand ourselves, our responses, and the world around us. As a witness and guide, I will help you learn to process grief and loss, access self-worth, boundaries, and inner wisdom so you can go forward feeling safe and with trust. I have worked with many different struggles, the most important thing for our relationship is that you show up willing to be open.

Welcome. I'm so glad you're here. If you're seeking therapy, you're likely looking for some sort of change, which requires hope. I believe hope is gritty and requires courage. I believe the magic is found right in that liminal space where we start to open the door to new possibilities. I currently serve adult women-identifying clients in my private practice who desire to work through grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, and relational conflict. Informed by relational psychodynamic theory and existential psychotherapy, my therapeutic orientation is relationship centered.

People describe me as calm, empathic, and balanced. I believe in the potential of those I see. I know people can and do manage and sometimes overcome debilitating mental health conditions. I rely on client collaboration and feedback to stretch a person beyond the distortions that render one paralyzed. Be ready to stretch and discover that you can. I have a little over 20 years in the social service and mental health field. I have worked within schools, hospitals, prisons, and community mental health agencies in California, Oregon, and Washington.

You may have been dealing with anxious or distressing thoughts and feelings for a while now, but are finally noticing that they are unmanageable. This may look like loops in your thoughts and feelings, reliving past trauma, broken relationships, or feeling like your needs are never met. Rather than participating in life, it may feel like you’re just going through the motions. This can feel hopeless and exhausting. Through safety built on honesty and openness, I will work with you to become attuned to your internal world, identify your values, develop healthy relationships, and heal from past trauma. I am an EMDR trained therapist.

Have you been ambitious your whole life, but recently feel resentful and burnt out? As a high achiever, it’s confusing to feel disconnected from the passion that has always driven you. Maybe this dissatisfaction has been slowly growing over the years & you’ve been able to manage it. But now you’re questioning whether all those long hours are worth it. You may also be feeling exhausted & unsure how something that used to be enjoyable just isn't anymore. The habitual stress of being exceptional in your work can also lead to health problems that medical doctors aren’t skilled at addressing. That's where I come in.

I value being real and supportive at the same time. I love what I do as a therapist and believe in being safe, trusting and accepting, no matter what may come! My office is (ever so slightly) cluttered and often gets the term "homey & comfortable" Dogs are welcome as well, due to their positive therapeutic benefit for their people (owners, minders & guardians). I value humor (when appropriate...granted, that's open to interpretation, right??!!) and use it as the situation arises, as in a give-and-take dynamic relationship. Life-long gamer & D&D geek, btw. :)

Or do you know someone struggling with depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? Are you wanting to find a way to understand where your child is coming from or come back to a healthy sense of wellbeing? I have worked with school aged children, before and after school, on social and emotion issues, along with working through difficult situations they may face or have already faced, and worked with them on how to communicate with peers and adults.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Vancouver?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
