It's hard to stay on top of demands and responsibilities and give each part of your life the consideration it deserves. Maintaining close relationships, parenting, divorce, illness and loss can be stressful and lead to feelings of helplessness and anxiety. We can work together to discover your own story and to develop coping skills for challenges in your family and work relationships.

It can be hard to find a therapist who really feels right for you! Let's arrange a consultation to discover together whether we might be a good fit. I will work with you to uncover old outmoded patterns that stand in the way of change, as together we build the moment-to-moment awareness that you need to begin to feel different and behave differently. Whether you are interested in individual, couples or group therapy(see group info. below), I can help you gain experiential insight to change your life for the better!

We all go through challenging times in our lives no matter how old we are. Some people choose to deal with those challenges on their own and some make the choice to share their thoughts, concerns, pain, anger, frustrations with someone who can help them go through resolution of their conflicts. Being in treatment can change profoundly someone’s life only if one wishes and wants to do that.

When you are physically ill you turn to your doctor, hoping they can help you feel better. Problems like depression, anxiety, impulsivity, uncontrollable anger, guilt, or low self-confidence can be as painful, if not more so, than physical illness; they can also create serious relationship and work difficulties. I have over 25 years of experience and I have helped many adults, adolescents, and couples who had received limited or no benefit from previous therapists, other doctors, or medications. I work well with people who are skeptical of, or intimidated by, talk therapy.

Are you exploring your gender, sexuality, alternative sexual practices and/or relationship dynamics? Have you tried to heal from your past trauma and been unable to feel more embodied and liberated? Do you find yourself feeling hopeless that you will ever find a sense of belonging or connection with others because your way of engaging in the world or an identity you possess is labeled as “other”? Would you like to live life with greater authenticity, self-compassion, empathy, and self-confidence? Are you looking to dismantle internalized oppression or privilege to be a more accountable partner in creating a more just society?

Often manifesting as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, low self-confidence and addiction, I work with women to identify presenting traumas and release it from the root!" Growth requires that we become aware of the patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that have kept us 'stuck.' As your therapist, I will actively listen to your concerns in order to facilitate the crucial components of personal growth: self-reflection and insight.

First off, congratulations on taking a major step for yourself by seeking a therapist. It would be an honor to help you further develop your sense of self, explore the depth of what you've experienced and begin to find and celebrate the joy in your life. I spent many years early on in my career with Monte Nido and Affiliates, holding roles ranging from Recovery Coach to Lead Therapist and pair my strong passion for recovery advocacy with my therapeutic specializations through my supervisory work with eating disorder non-profit Project HEAL.

I believe that genuine relationships have the power to heal. And the relationship between a client and therapist is a particularly unique bond. Irvin Yalom has described this relationship as one of 'fellow travelers' on an adventure of mutual growth and discovery. As your fellow traveler, I’ll stand alongside you as an active collaborator on your journey. My hope is that together we can uncover the most expansive and alive version of yourself. Together we will create a space where all parts of you are welcome. As women and queer people, we’re often conditioned to think there are fragments of ourselves that must remain hidden.

Living and working in New York has its unique challenges. My clients both thrive and struggle navigating the fast pace and demandingness of the city. Anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, negative self-image, and work challenges are main areas of focus in my practice. Using an integrative model of therapy will help us to understand and address these concerns holistically.

I became a therapist to help people realize their true capabilities in the midst of adversity. I want to normalize the idea of therapy and mobilize people, especially from a Black/African-American/Latinx background, to seek help sooner rather than later. Real growth starts when you are fed up with the nonsense and want to make moves. Therapy is a process that cannot be rushed, nor half done. It is not an overnight cure. How do we set boundaries without feeling guilty? How do we catch, challenge, and change anxious negative thoughts? How do we shed old skin, forgive our past selves, and step into a new version?

People seek therapy out for many reasons, in essence, people just want to feel better. We want to feel less stressed, less depressed, less anxious, less angry. We want to feel more happy, more passionate, more sexual, more satisfied with our life, relationships, and careers. How does this magical shift happen? Actually, no magic required, just the courage to take the first step in knowing you want to experience your life differently than how you are experiencing it today. Through purposeful dialogue and a supportive and empathic environment this shift in living and perspective is not only possible but probable.

In my practice, I focus on helping people understand and alter the patterns that stand in their way to actualize their potential, feel alive and whole. I treat people who are striving to find love, or feel lonely in their present intimate relationships or/and their families. I work with people to find a voice to speak their frustrations, longings, and desires, and the courage to use this voice with others. In the safety and non-judgmental therapeutic relationship we seek to understand the origin and role that feelings of anxiety, shame, and worthlessness play so that they lose their inhibiting power, and dissolve away.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in New York?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
