I believe the connection you have with your therapist is essential to having a positive experience in therapy. People seek therapy for many reasons. You notice feeling sad, stressed, worried or overwhelmed; you experienced a traumatic event or a great loss; you are trying to change certain patterns in your life; you want more fulfilling relationships. Whether I am working with individuals, couples or families, I am empathic, collaborative, and provide suggestions and feedback in a safe, respectful and supportive environment. I have worked with different cultures, backgrounds, ages and professions, and love learning from my clients.

Starting with the initial consultation, I begin helping my clients clarify their goals for treatment, identify any potential obstacles to achieving those goals, and together we begin creating a treatment plan for success. My style is empathic, candid, and direct. I listen intently, but I also ask questions, I explore, I provide real, authentic feedback, and I use humor…I love to laugh!

Your best therapist is a witness to your life. Your hope is that if your pain and struggle is seen by another, so will your desires, resilience, and resourcefulness. My place in your therapy is to see you, hear you, and reflect your power back to you. Sharing your journey lets me witness your transformations, big and small. I see and ask: How has systemic oppression affected you, your family, and your communities? I work with Clients anywhere on the spectrums of gender/sexuality, (non)religion, ability, and cultural & racial identity; who express body and sex positivity everywhere from asexual to kink…monogamous to poly…and beyond.

“I’m having an existential crisis” & “I’m struggling with my goals” are oftentimes one of the first sentences that a person says to me when seeking therapy. My clients are vibrant, smart, creative individuals who want to increase their quality of life. People who come in for therapy are struggling with life transitions, grief & loss, career issues, artistic blocks, anxiety, disappointment, depression, anger, frustration, addiction issues, and interpersonal, or romantic challenges. They are looking to feel better, make strides in their personal lives and careers, understand themselves, and seek opportunities to change their lives.

I get it. Everyone else manages a seemingly perfect life, but your family somehow can’t. It’s frustrating being unable to figure out what’s causing problems in your family. You’re too busy and/or embarrassed to seek help. But failure to act can be devastating. Family conflict escalates, miscommunication deepens disconnection driving the family further apart. Teenagers feel isolated, helpless, and alone, which can lead to bursts of anger, lack of motivation, poor grades, school refusal, difficulty becoming an adult, as well as impulsive & risky behaviors like substance abuse, self-harm, or worse.

Love. Joy. Ecstasy. Awe. In my 18 years of clinical experience, I’ve discovered that we each have far more capacity for these expansive feelings than we often realize. Whether you are contending with many challenges, or feel ready to fly through the stars, I can work with you collaboratively to shape a life that fulfills your highest dreams, and maybe even soars beyond them. I’m eager to share what I’ve learned about our abilities to break out of old patterns of pain, fear, and shame into fruitful creativity and communion with the most inspiring aspects of being alive.

Psychotherapy can be a challenging and rewarding process. People often come to treatment to talk about what's wrong, but it is also important to talk about what's right. Each person has natural areas of strength we can capitalize on to increase coping skills, reduce distress, improve relationships, and develop a more adaptive outlook. With a collaborative approach that combines insight-oriented and goal-directed interventions, we will work together to create new pathways towards well-being.

Living with guilt, worry, and irritability can be exhausting. A sense of overwhelm that feels inescapable. Perhaps you feel disconnected from yourself and those around you, and you aren't sure why. You are tired of doing it all for everyone, all of the time, and making it look easy. Being a woman juggling relationships, a job, a family, and much more can be challenging. I can support and guide your journey toward a more calm and peaceful inner world. My ideal client is someone who comes to therapy with an open mind and a willingness to explore and work through their struggles.

I enjoy working with married people and single people, gay people and straight people, men and women, therapy beginners and treatment seasoned soldiers. It is hard to narrow down to a "type" as I have experience with a broad array of people and presenting issues. That said, I do seem to connect especially well with creative people: actors, writers, producers, etc. The most important aspect of your relationship with your therapist is chemistry and that is tricky to predict from the reading of a profile. Better to call me or meet in person so we can see about the match.

Now accepting new clients including couples and individuals. Most of us are not born knowing how to navigate relationships, understand and manage our emotions or process our traumas. Many things throughout our life influence us and how we react and behave in different situations, however that doesn’t mean we can’t grow and develop as individuals. My goal is to help clients become confident in who they are through discovering their own self-worth and practicing self-compassion. We can work together to create a space where you can find the tools and support you are looking for during this period of your life.

Do you feel truly heard and seen in your relationships? Are you out of the closet, but still struggle with your identity? Does low self-esteem get in the way of living more authentically? Are you sober curious? Have you been harmed by religion, but want to connect more spiritually? Do you feel trapped in a pattern of choices that, while you recognize aren’t supportive, you continue making despite the negative consequences? I can relate. I’ve been there. It's not uncommon for gay men to experience the effects of heteronormativity. Which is why an affirming therapist can help foster resilience in a unique way.

I love helping others! Please reach out to see if I might be a good teammate for you. I will work to gain your trust, create space for you to share what you need to. We will work to understand your fears, frustrations, self-doubts, family dynamics that are causing stress, sadness, anger, confusion, etc. I am taking clients in-person and virtually (in CA) and will be grateful to talk. If you think I am not a good fit then perhaps I can help you find someone who is. I can support you out-of-network for your insurance and offer flexibility with rates, if needed.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
