Life in the Bay Area is challenging and the additional stress associated with being LGBTQ+, a woman, pregnant, a parent or all of the above can push it over the edge. Sometimes, especially if you didn’t feel protected or cared for as a child or if something bad has happened to you, life can feel like you’re in over your head. Relationships feel out of control and painful, sleeping is hard and you can’t seem to take care of yourself the way you know you should. Emotions can feel like a roller coaster and daily responsibilities like work or kids are overwhelming. It is possible to feel better and good therapy can help.

I specialize in transition to parenthood, pregnancy loss, building family (straight and LGBTQ), adoption, foster and kinship parenting, perinatal mood disorders, attachment challenges and disruptions, developmental and life transitions, parent child relationships at all ages, children's school problems, behavioral issues, ADHD, depression, and anxiety.
A clinical and developmental psychologist with over 30 years experience, I work with adults, parents and children from birth through adolescence. Development is a continual balance of equilibrium and disequilibrium; a lifelong process as our bodies, brains, relationships and societal expectations change. While the challenges along the way bring the discomfort of vulnerability and negative emotions, they also create opportunity for growth and change. From infancy on, we all have an inner vitality into which therapy can allow us to tap. Therapy provides a safe protected space that nurtures exploration, reflection, growth and change.

A particular specialization of mine is thinking about gender and working with the LGBTQ community.
Feeling understood, feeling helped, and feeling supported are at the core of psychotherapy. This process also includes developing and enhancing self understanding. Many people contemplate calling a therapist for a long time, unsure of what to expect or how to proceed. Together, we can explore and understand difficult issues in your life and gain a deeper understanding of your situation. Through this process, we can begin to offer you new emotional experiences. In a safe setting with warmth and engagement, I provide an opportunity to gently move through what is bothering you most.

Trauma affects all aspects of our life. It changes how we see ourselves, our relationships, and the world. Whether it's childhood, relational, sexual, or other kinds of trauma, recovering and growing is possible. Aside from trauma, I commonly work with anxiety, depression, and relationship (partner, family, or friendship) concerns. I also specialize in working with people who are exploring their gender and sexual identity or are experiencing challenges related to their LGBTQ identity.

Folks come to therapy for a variety of reasons that all boil down to change, whether they're struggling to handle it or make it. Many of my clients' lives don't align with societal norms, either intentionally coloring outside the lines or struggling to fit in. Folks may find themselves overwhelmed, dealing with big emotions, the effects of complex or single-event trauma, complex medical issues, or chronic pain. I am passionate about working with the LGBTQ+ - including trans kids and their families, disabled, and neurodiverse populations. I like to work with individuals, couples, polycules, and families of all shapes and sizes.

I love working with those who don't always feel comfortable or "seen" in clinical settings: LGBTQ+ folks, kink/BDSM practitioners, sex workers, POC, poly/open/nontraditional relationship architects, people with disabilities, Burners, self-proclaimed weirdos, and anyone struggling with or exploring identity.
I believe that experiencing loving, nurturing relationships is the best part of being alive. I also recognize that for many of us, creating and maintaining such relationships can be incredibly hard. I view psychotherapy as a means to explore whatever is currently blocking our path to healthy, fulfilling and supportive connections--both to others and to ourselves. Sometimes that means building skills we never learned in the first place. Other times that means examining challenging past experiences. Whatever the circumstances, I am here to support your journey toward growth, fulfillment, and ultimately, greater joy.

As LGBTQ minorities, we often find ourselves wondering "where is my community?" and "why can't I just be myself?" It seems like we've tried everything but we don't feel like we belong or we are in a safe place to live & work. We often wonder... when is this going to get better? When can I just live my life fully how I am? Sometimes we feel sad and it can be a very lonely place. We can even forget just how special and unique we are because we are so different and surrounded by those who just "don't get it." We really want someone who can connect to us and make our experiences feel validated, reminding us that we are beautiful.

My goal is to help you create progress towards the life you do want for yourself. I’ll want to understand the changes you’d like to see in yourself. I’ll want us to identify the behaviors you’d like to execute more often, the chronic emotions you’d like to experience, and the outcomes you’d like to see present themselves in your life. With that information, we'll set the progressive steps & overall goals for therapy.

I am an LGBTQ-affirming therapist, and I work with individuals and couples/partners (in all forms of relationship structures).
You entered into the year with the intention of manifesting joy - only to realize that you’re more anxious, ungrounded, and exhausted than ever before. Perhaps you’re experiencing a transition in your life, a loss of relationship with a loved one, or a shift in your identity that you’re needing to explore and process. Or maybe it’s your partner who’s hurting and you don’t know what else to do because no matter what you say, it never feels like enough.

I am a bilingual Latinx psychotherapist who works with LGBTQ+, BI&POC, and migrant communities with a special interest in meeting the unique needs of sex workers and multiraracial individuals within these communities.
All too often many of us fall through the cracks in the systems we navigate, become othered and undervalued by society, and end up in a never ending race where we feel as though we are constantly catching up or at the precipice of falling behind - sometimes all at once! We carry this with us while we are held to the same standards as those who do not face the same barriers. This is where therapy can enter your life.

I have a particular passion for working with couples to help them address conflicts such as communication, sexuality (LGBTQ), sexual trauma, anxiety, past relationship trauma, lack of intimacy, coping skills, relationship transitions, polyamory, infidelity, depression, and emotional regulation.
I believe that healing can come from numerous sources, but one of the most powerful is through interpersonal connections. In my work, I provide a space for vulnerability and understanding that allows these connections to foster change. Therapy is like an objective mirror that reflects thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Through this mirror, you can begin to see a clearer picture of yourself, so much so, that eventually you can carry that image outside of the therapy room and be happy and confident in what you see. I believe to have this image, you must strengthen yourself and the relationships that are in it.
