I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and a certified sexual addiction therapist-candidate (CSAT-candiate). I am also a committed Christian. Greetings! My name is Ashley Childs and I am a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern at Inner Serenity. I am trained in the standard protocol of EMDR as well as acute and ongoing stress advanced EMDR protocol(s). I am also a certified Vinyasa and Kemetic Yoga Teacher. I am extremely passionate about incorporating body center approaches in my practice and take a client centered approach. I believe clients are the experts of their experiences as well as their story. I take pride in looking at therapy through a Mind & Body lens, as they are both impacted due to our experiences.

I have extensive experience with mood disorders, trauma and addictions and work with all ages. I am trained in EMDR and use that technique with both children and adults if appropriate. My clients often state when they first spoke to me they felt immediately at ease and did not feel judged. I am able to assist my clients in seeing patterns in their life story and work to identify and change core beliefs such as "I'm not good enough", "I'm defective" or "I cannot trust others."

The reasons people don't seek therapy are complex. For many, therapy exists within the very systems that have harmed them, yet therapeutic practices (& therapists) often ignore these truths when they ask individuals to “take charge” of and “own responsibility” for the distress and trauma in their lives without that broader understanding, or worse, from a place of privilege or toxic positivity. Clients who decide to work with me should be ready to engage deeply and authentically. My approach is empathetic and requires accountability, radical honesty, and a commitment to the work of healing.

I am committed to supporting my clients trust in themselves to make the best choices for their lives. Often old pain, or distorted ideas about who we are get in the way of this trust, so I support the resolution of these issues. Although trained to approach therapy from a Systems perspective, I have trained in numerous other modalities over the 38 years including EMDR, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, Internal Family Systems, Family Reconstruction, Hypnosis, and Bodywork (Bioenergetics).
