Life can feel overwhelming, chaotic, and unpredictable. We find we do not experience the degree of satisfying reward which we had hoped we would. Our work may feel stressful or meaningless. Our relationships may be wearisome or distant. At the end of each day, we may feel confused and weary, absent the energy for another one ahead. Our familiar coping strategies work fine in the short run, but seem to exact ever increasing long term costs in our health or relationships. Psychotherapy proposes to provide both temporary relief and a means to leave behind the coping habits entirely.

As a trauma therapist, I believe that personal growth and transformation is vital to the human experience, and that sometimes we need support through this process. Therapy is embarking on a journey, and you are the hero of your story. In meeting with you where you are at in your journey, I will help you to develop your own set of skills to help you through your daily experiences. I also encourage approaching challenges with vulnerability and self-compassion and will assist in practicing these areas in our sessions. BHR is about developing a better toolbox to enhance relationships with yourself and others, and to provide a safe, nurturing environment for learning and healing. Life isn’t just a bowl of cherries—it also includes the PITs. In life, the PITs (Prevention, Intervention, and Treatment) provide the seeds for future cherries. While we are all victims at times, healing starts with moving from a victim mentality of blaming others to the survivor mentality of taking responsibility—not for what happened in the past, but for how to go forward.

My focus and passion is sexual health and I work with people of all ages. Sexuality is an important source of identity, connection and pleasure, but I also recognize the ways in which shame, trauma, and limited/unhelpful learning about sex contributes to a lot of common sexual problems and conflict in relationships. I support clients with a variety of goals including improving your sex life, dealing with sexual pain, working through sexual “dysfunctions,” exploring sexual preferences, and dealing with out-of-control sexual behavior. I also work with parents, teens and families on issues related to sexuality.

I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, loss, PTSD and trauma. I also specialize in older adult population (55+) and geriatric clients dealing with issues of aging with focus on life transitions, isolation, sexuality and aging, sexual health, sex therapy, disability, and loss of independence. I work with clients concerned about end of life, personal health, companionships, and safety. I provide consult to caregivers of mentally ill older adults. In addition, I specialize in immigration issues and cultural adjustment. My goal is to help clients recover their balance, positive attitude and emotional stability.
