The range of interpersonal and skill-based interventions includes an understanding of family, culture, and gender specific influences on the current issues or concerns. The use of mindfulness principles and skills provides an added support to clients for strengthening their ability to better manage stress and for overall well-being. In over two decades as a psychotherapist I have consistently found that an integrative approach is most effective for promoting the positive outcomes that my clients are seeking.

Our way of live has been turned upside down. The structures of our community that ground, secure and orient us, have been hit by this pandemic. We find ourselves feeling disoriented and out of sorts. Others are grappling with not only the upending of routines caused by the pandemic but are fearing for their life or their livelihood. Whatever your situation, your life has been changed right now by something outside your control, and this is invariably stressful. And, of course, many of you were dealing with mental health issues or traumatic life events before the complication of a pandemic.

I use a relational approach to therapy which considers the therapeutic relationship to be transformative and healing, a vehicle for better understanding our internal world. – My schedule is fully booked – As each person is unique, the best therapy is individualized. I am very flexible to what you personally need, constructing therapy based on what works to relieve suffering, foster growth, and develop insight. We will focus on understanding, but we might use mindfulness, anxiety management techniques, or other modalities. I avoid jargon and acronyms, preferring to talk in more ordinary or evocative language. Sometimes, there are big issues to grapple with, but often by focusing on seemingly small blocks, we can loosen the process of growth and the experience of being alive to one's own life.

I have been in private practice for 30 years in the capacity of family therapist and clinical director at two residential facilities. I do not believe in long term therapy, and on occasion, clients will come back for a "tune-up." I am direct, I will give you feedback, (not tell you what to do) and be very supportive at the same time. Family therapists, believe that behaviors get passed down from generation to generation.
