I specialize in treating eating and body image issues. I can help you to explore the emotions that underly your relationship to food and your body, enhance your awareness of the many ways our culture creates eating problems, and help you to locate healthier ways to cope with the stress of life.
I believe that cultural norms and pressures contribute to the creation of psychological problems. When we internalize unrealistic cultural ideals and expectations, it can leave us feeling inadequate and troubled. In contrast, beginning to identify and to live by our own values is immensely liberating and empowering.
Prior to becoming an Marriage and Family Therapist, I received a PhD in Literature. During my doctoral studies, I researched, taught and wrote about eating disorders. This academic background, combined with my counseling training, allows me to bring a compassionate and in-depth understanding to my work with clients.
