Welcome to my practice! I am a licensed psychologist with a doctorate in both clinical and developmental psychology. I work with adults, adolescents, children, couples and families. I have training in various approaches to therapy, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and utilize those that best fit your needs. While we may look at your background to best understand your current situation, my primary focus is on improving your here and now functioning. I also coordinate care with your other providers or school personnel as needed. My clients find me to be very supportive, compassionate, and responsive to their needs.

My goal is to provide a warm, understanding, and safe environment where my clients can process their feelings and increase self-awareness, confidence, and learn new coping skills to manage stressors. Known for our dynamic treatment of trauma, violence and the effects of abusive behaviors, we base our therapeutic process on a unique treatment, The Collaborative Stage Model (CSM). Co-created by Mary Jo Barrett, MSW, the founder of the Center for Contextual Change, CSM is a solution-focused, three-stage model aimed at facilitating change through collaboration between the client and therapist; the client will experience positive shifts in their internal, relational, and environmental worlds.

My practice specializes in treating children, adolescents and adults across the life span, with a special interest in helping 18- to 30-year-olds navigate young adulthood. My style derives from psychodynamic, family systems, relational and cognitive schools of psychotherapy. As an individual and family therapist, I offer a warm, compassionate, accepting environment where clients can safely explore personal issues and family members can learn new ways of understanding each other and being together. I am a psychotherapist with a Master’s degree from the University of Chicago, where I studied clinical social work. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults on a wide range of clinical issues including anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, addiction, and trauma. I am passionate about perinatal mental health and is interested in working with new parents as they navigate at the complex issues associated with planning, pregnancy, and parenthood.

I provide parent coaching for children with both typical development, medical issues, developmental concerns, and sensory integration disorder. I empower families to manage behavior concerns at home. I have expertise in adults with chronic illness and the anxiety/depression that is associated with chronic pain. I have an eclectic approach using psychodynamic, family systems, and cognitive behavioral theories in treatment. When working with a family/child the whole family would be included in the process so everyone can feel empowered.

Having sexual trauma can turn your world upside down. It can be very hard to build relationships, and trusting others becomes that much harder. If there is sexual trauma as a child then the trust and innocence are lost early. If it is as an adult then the meaning and idea of what you knew trust to be are now shifted. Being in a relationship with sexual trauma history can be a rollercoaster ride filled with unknown twists and turns. I know that the needs and changes may be different for those individuals and their partners. My goal is to work together with my clients to relieve the pressure of the reprogrammed trauma brain.

In practice for 20 years, I am a licensed clinical professional counselor and certified sex therapist specializing in the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders as a starting place. Often underlying these disorders are issues with relationship patterns and stress related to stage of life transitions in both the personal and professional realms. In addition, I have expertise providing support during the prenatal and postpartum period, treating sexual health/functioning concerns, working through grief, loss and the challenge of infertility. Other ares of specialization include working with new mothers over 40 and young adults.
