I am a cognitive behavioral therapist with experience helping people feel better emotionally, behave more functionally and experience long-lasting change. I specialize in anxiety and depression, and employ a present-oriented, structured therapy that involves problem solving, mindfulness and looking at things from a new, more helpful perspective. I also employ outcome measures so we can closely gauge our progress, without having to make vague estimates. I studied applied psychology at New York University, and went on to receive my Doctor of Psychology at St. John's University where I received intensive CBT training.

Life can be overwhelming. It is easy to get stuck in a cycle of anxiety, hopelessness, frustration and/or sadness making your days that much harder. Talking can help you feel in control and allow you to believe in yourself once again. My job is to help you find your inner strength and foster your self-esteem in areas where it may have been lost. I believe that through understanding and compassion, I can help you find those problematic emotions that can wreak havoc in a world that is already filled with chaos.

Today’s world can be a very challenging place. You may be feeling overwhelmed, angry, stuck, scared, or lost. Simply managing emotions can become a full-time job, and yet the problems often persist despite our best efforts to feel better. Fortunately, you have taken a vital step by seeking out a dedicated, compassionate therapist. Much of my work has focused on anger, substance use issues, ADHD, trauma, and grief. My clients have been varied: young men stifled by shame, seniors navigating health scares, a couple feeling overwhelmed by the challenges of a newborn, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Acknowledging your desire to begin this process is a brave first step. Everyone has gone through periods of time where life feels overwhelming and challenging. Individual Therapy is a space for you to visit where you can feel understood, and not judged. Our time together can be short term if you are working through an acute crisis, or longer term if you need a place to work through deeply rooted feelings of low self worth, anxiety or depression. I am able to work with couples upon request.

Therapeutic change requires a trusting relationship within which thoughts and feelings can be expressed and explored freely. As a seasoned therapist, I believe that the crises that bring us to the first therapy appointment can be the beginning of a process of self-exploration that leads to greater self-understanding and more effective problem solving. As we sit together, I help you reflect on what is going on in the present and how you got there. I pay close attention to patterns and themes that emerge and help you organize these so you can develop a narrative of your life that makes sense to you.

I am currently taking new patients who are experiencing problems with work, school and/or relationships that are due to obsessive and problematic usage of Internet/video games/smartphones and other electronic screens. Depression and anxiety are often associated with excessive use of these interactive technologies. Over the past 15 years, I have seen a significant rise in my practice in people who have experienced major difficulties that have been rooted in spending too much time online, or excessively involved in one or more forms of interactive technology. Psychotherapy is ultimately about achieving a deeper understanding of the self, articulating the issues one struggles with and creating a pathway towards change. It can be a challenge to shape our futures and to find the right therapist with whom you can establish a meaningful connection. Whether you are seeking therapy as an individual or as a couple, navigating the kinds of questions keeping you up at night means finding someone you can trust. Someone with whom you can co-create a judgement-free, compassionate, empathetic landscape. I’m interested in finding out if we can build that kind of dynamic together.

I believe that therapy should be a collaborative process. I view my clients and I as a team that is working together to help them achieve their therapeutic goals. Anxiety and Depression can thrive in the darkness, and I believe that they can be brought into the light through honest conversation. I work to meet clients where they are at and help them get where they want to be. Your priorities and goals matter.

Personal Therapy is a place to resolve your feelings and feel better about yourself. When you experience a physical ailment, you see a physician who will examine you and make recommendations. If you want to get in better physical shape, you hire a personal trainer and a nutritionist. For personal growth and overall improvement in your life, it's a professional therapist who provides those services. I assist people in navigating through life challenges, changes and transitions. I help clients develop strategies to change behavior or cope with difficult situations and can provide other resources or services, such as support groups.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in New York?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
