You can make the change you want. And I can help. I can assist you in transforming negative and destructive thoughts and behavior into more helpful and compassionate responses. I start with assessing your particular patterns that are self-defeating to what you would like to change in your life. Then I design a program to help you change these behaviors and cope with your existing situation. This mindfulness-based therapy emphasizes working together to help you with depression, anxiety, addictions, eating disorders, and chronic or emotional pain; resolve relationship issues; or recover from trauma and grief.

Individuals with learning differences often show their stress through school avoidance, anxiety, or struggling with sense of direction or motivation.
We provide testing for children and adults in these areas: Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, ADHD, and Gifted and Talented/Twice Exceptional. A neuropsychological evaluation helps in determining the cause of the struggle, clarifying whether a diagnosis is appropriate, and creating a recommendation plan. At Minnesota Neuropsychology, we are dedicated to providing meaningful neuropsychological evaluations to address your specific questions. Let's work together to understand the struggle, highlight the strengths, and see what can be done to help.

My work at Brainsight centers around helping people learn more effectively, whether they are children or adolescents in a school setting or adults in the workplace. I specialize in the identification and treatment of problems with attention, learning, and memory. The ability to pay attention and remember things is integral to learning and working. If you are easily distracted, have difficulty focusing your attention, suffer from a poor memory, or struggle to learn new things, you may benefit from an evaluation. Some individuals also benefit from counseling or coaching, and others benefit from training programs for memory or executive functions.

I evaluate children and teens who may have learning difficulties, problems focusing, general school problems, mood or anxiety-related concerns, or peer issues. These struggles could impact many aspects of their life and their ability to thrive in their environment. Even if you feel you know your child very well, sometimes it is unclear why they are having such a hard time. Parents who bring their children to my practice are seeking guidance for how to best understand their difficulties and for recommendations for how they can help their child succeed.

In designing treatment programs, we use developmentally appropriate methods to facilitate learning and behavior change.
We work with individuals of all ages with anxiety, mood and related issues across the lifespan. When working with younger children, we meet with parents without the child for the first evaluation session, and then meet with the child individually during the second evaluation session. Our center also routinely works with college-aged and young adult clients. Here, our therapists incorporate components of therapy geared specifically to this age group: identity development, fostering independence and autonomy, and helping clients navigate the challenges experienced during their transition into adulthood.

I help individuals, couples and families navigate difficult stressful times by learning tools and rediscovering effective coping skills that each individual has.
My belief as a therapist is that everybody "gets stuck" from time to time in their life. Therapy that focuses on individual strengths challenging intrusive thoughts or ineffective behaviors to help people get "unstuck" has been my goal as a therapist for over 15 years. I take a no nonsense approach to assist clients in not just feeling better but being better at "feeling". Therapy is about movement and becoming "emotionally fit".

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?
When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.
When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?
It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.
What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?
Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.
Are there medications for learning disabilities?
Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
