Clients have expressed that my positivity and humor, mixed with realism and accountability, are helpful in the therapy process. Together we will build an authentic connection, get to the core of recurring problems, and heal from life events. One of my favorite quotes is, “No one knows you better than yourself”. Even so, at times we struggle to heal and make changes on our own. Sometimes we need help evaluating our relationships and experiences from a new perspective.

Maybe you are dealing with grieving a significant loss, anxiety and depression, adjusting to become a parent, struggle with belonging, or just feel stuck and know that you are ready to do something about it. Just as we require food and rest, we also require intentional time for ourselves. Being deeply seen and heard fortifies our courage to live as we want to live, and love as we want to be loved. Being understood is an investment we make in ourselves. I work to build the sense of trust needed for such vulnerable work and have a thoughtful style of care.

Have you ever found yourself unable to feel better, despite past attempts to think your way out and move forward? Have you found that the same types of hardships keep happening over and over with your behaviors, family, friends, work, school, or partners, like a cycle you can't seem to escape? Maybe you've seen talk therapists or doctors for your symptoms before but didn't seem to get better for long. Or maybe you hold pain that's difficult to talk about. Are you tired of feeling stuck? Are you looking to get to the root of these challenges and heal them for good?

Therapy is not a one-sided conversation; in fact it is an interaction with another person for real discovery and wellness. I can promise you I am as real as it gets. I want to help you achieve the changes you are looking for as well as see you discover the new you. I do not believe growth and discovery have to always be an uncomfortable experience. Reaching out to a therapist can be intimidating, but I hope you will take a moment and maybe a few deep breaths to call and see how I can help.

I believe that relationships are at the core of any effective therapy. It is important to me that the children and families I work with feel heard and respected. I am flexible in my approaches and how I deliver therapy. This allows me to be able to focus on the strengths of the child and family. I utilize interests, abilities, and passions to provide services that are engaging, comfortable, and impactful. I believe that children, adolescents and young adults thrive best in therapy when they are allowed to express themselves in the way that is most natural for them.

I am in the business of helping you become the best version of yourself. Rather than focusing on just your symptoms, I facilitate your personal development and wellness. I explore life narratives, experiences in families, gender roles and cultural systems, but most importantly, I will hear you, see you and provide you a safe and challenging relationship to heal and grow. I consider it a privilege to be a trusted professional with my clients who courageously reveal vulnerabilities while building on their gifts. So, let's not call it "needing" therapy. What if we just say, we're feeling overwhelmed, depressed, anxious, conflicted, or isolated? If you're feeling any of those things, I can help. I often start treatment the 1st session, immediately following the assessment. After 6-12 sessions clients usually feel significantly better. I'd be happy to meet with you over the phone confidentially, have a brief discussion (at no charge), and see if it sounds like we would be the right client-therapist fit.

Counseling looks different for everyone-it is not one size fits all. I use methods that work for you in that moment and can vary by session. What you may need one day may not be what you will need the next. I aim to give you a safe, non-judgmental space to tell your story how and when you are ready. Together, we will have honest, sometimes uncomfortable but needed conversations. We will address barriers, examine boundaries, set goals, and work towards finding your voice.

Since completing my master's degree and post-grad training at UM in 2009, I've worked in crisis intervention, inpatient and community-based settings. In these contexts, as well as in my own life, I've found that all of us complicated, unique humans share some basic common goals. In the words of the poet Hafiz, we all want "to love more, and be happy." I've also found that with some bravery, strength and wisdom, the difficulties we face today can serve as catalysts toward positive change and a more meaningful, fulfilling life.

My imagination is captivated by how intricate and interconnected our stories are with the world around us, both in our intimate relationships and in the culture and society in which we live. Oftentimes these stories can weave patterns of disconnection between oneself and others, leaving us feeling stuck, and in need of care and tending. In my work, I offer a heartfelt and empathic space to explore your experience in the world. Whether it’s finding self-acceptance, moving through anxiety or depression, or navigating relationship challenges, I meet you where you’re at and help you find your inner resources for healing.

Sometimes life can be overwhelming, and it can be difficult to manage the stress and trials that come. Our experiences can leave us feeling overwhelmed, alone, or unsure where to turn. When we feel stuck or scared, we can act in ways we question, lose track of what we value, or begin to feel unworthy of those around us. This can impact the way we interact with others and show up in our day to day lives. Through the counseling relationship you can learn to explore more about yourself, process your experiences and emotions, begin to heal, and take charge of the life you want to live.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
