People who have experienced trauma often note significant reactions in their body, despite not knowing or understanding the cause. Although they cognitively feel like they are safe, their body will not let them relax or connect easily with others. This is because the autonomic nervous system, which tells us whether or not we are in danger, may be tuned to be hypervigilant or shut down due to the traumas the individual experienced. Reshaping the nervous system's responses through experiential exercises can bring relief.
As a polyvagal informed mental health and music therapist, I use music and creativity to bring awareness to how emotion is expressed in the body. Through experiential interventions, including the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP), we can bring more awareness to your experiences in the moment, gain unique insight into your life, and have fun!
If you are someone who has experienced trauma and finds that only talking about your experience has not been enough to help you grow, my style of therapy may be a good fit for you. I am available for free consultations to provide more detail regarding my process and the SSP. If you are interested, I look forward to working with you!
