Trauma Skills

This group is a psychoeducation and processing group designed to help trauma survivors connect with others who have been through similar experiences. Each 60-minute session will begin with a short psychoeducation lesson followed by group processing about the lesson and/or other issues identified by participants. This group will be based around Janina Fisher’s “Transforming the Living Legacy of Trauma”. Key topics include: -identifying trauma triggers -how trauma changes the brain’s stress response -understanding dissociation -identifying and challenging beliefs related to traumatic events -identifying personalized trauma coping skills -communicating in relationships around the topic of trauma

Trauma and Mindfulness

Mindfulness practices are a key element to understanding and implementing techniques to manage trauma. Mindfulness techniques include meditation but also include learning how to identify triggers, physical responses, and internal reactions. This group focuses on how to build practical mindfulness skills and how to use these skills to deepen the understanding of self and the nature of trauma. Key concepts include: -how to begin a sustainable meditation practice -learning to identify dissociation and how to manage it -identifying somatic responses to emotions and triggers -how to build a mindful perspective on thoughts -building compassion towards troubling triggers and internal reactions
