My approach is to understand my client through a complete history of childhood and adult experiences so that we can together explore how the client perceives the world. Sometimes experiences can cause clients to be anxious, defensive or make poor choices. I hope to help clients see how these approaches may have been useful in other times in life but may be less useful now. Sometimes a new approach to thinking is helpful. Other times insight and being understood can promote change.This approach also works with both parties in a couple to help regain trust and form new ways of relating.
I see adults, couples, children and adolescents. I have extensive training in play therapy which is the primary approach that I use for children under 13. This training also allows me to try imaginative ways to help people communicate. I believe clear, open communication can be healing in a family or with a couple.
I try to create a safe, non-judgemental environment. I tend to communicate directly while also trying to incorporate humor as I think laughter is a powerful healing tool. In addition I am also a parent and a caretaker to elderly parents so I have a wide range of life experience from which to draw.
