Human suffering stems from unacknowledged trauma which develops multiple ways including spans of prolonged stress, surgery, crime, grief, injury, childhood neglect or abuse, domestic violence or bullying. Trauma symptoms- depression, anxiety, and PTSD, are difficult to overcome. With traditional therapy you may find symptoms keep resurfacing, thus impairing your functioning and leading you to feel frustrated and discouraged. But, there is another way to do therapy, the EMDR way. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, a therapy that goes directly to the trauma by targeting the way it is stored in your brain.

Talk therapy may not be effective because your brain automatically represses the trauma to protect you from thinking about it and triggering the fight or flight response. The trauma is not gone, merely suppressed. Therefore, trauma exists in your brain (and body), inaccessible to traditional talk therapy.

The most insidious aftermath of trauma is the negative self-definition that humans adopt when we experience trauma, whether small t or capital T trauma. I work with clients to resolve their trauma by using EMDR, an effective method that allows the client to FEEL what they already KNOW, that it's over, they matter, and they are good enough. These changes are cognitively hard-wired thereafter.

I primarily use EMDR to change the negative self-definitions clients automatically default to, and to desensitize pain from trauma. In the first session I will explain EMDR, get client history, and collaborate with client in setting treatment goals. Subsequent sessions will consist of naming and setting up the trauma target for EMDR and processing the trauma with EMDR, which works amazingly fast.
