I believe that thinking about the problem in the context of the relationship system contributes to more objectivity for moving forward in a sustainable way.
When an individual, marriage or family is in crisis, blaming the other or self is natural but impedes the ability to think about the problem clearly. In therapy, a focus on the other is replaced with an effort to increase one's objectivity about one's own functioning and to define a direction for self.
Most of my patients report feeling better after four to six sessions. Many go on to address the underlying relationship patterns to deepen and sustain the changes they've made. Often, patients comment that my approach is helpful in getting calmer, thinking more clearly, and defining themselves more clearly in important relationships.
