I believe most of us have an innate desire to be heard; to be seen as we are. We are hard-wired for connection. Achieving a healthy sense of self is fundamental to authentic and wholesome relationships. Feeling valued is essential in the healing process. When entering counseling, a person is looking for a change in their life. It is essential as a therapist, to hear the needs and desires expressed. Establishing trust and authenticity is foundational to beginning a healing journey. A big part of my role is to provide truth with honesty and compassion. Truth shared in a safe space acts as a powerful tool to promoting insight.
I work with adults and couples. Areas I specialize in include depression, anxiety, PTSD. trauma, communication skills, parenting concerns, ADHD, and codependent relationships. I use therapeutic modalities as they are appropriate to each client. In addition to using CBT, I use EMDR, narrative, person-centered and psychodynamic interventions.
So often I meet people who have been living their lives in ways that perpetuate unhappiness; so much so that the option of change isn't recognized and striving has become their norm. Regardless of circumstances, life is meant to live and enjoy. It's never perfect, however, our ability to respond well and remain standing is what gives us hope.
