I provide empirically supported Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to adolescents and adults who suffer from symptoms of depression, anxiety, eating disorders, trauma, bereavement, and substance use. Setting clear goals and assessing progress toward these goals are an important part of the process. I feel successful when people walk away with concrete tools for managing their symptoms and increased confidence in their ability to do so. I also provide couples counseling, again focusing on behavioral tools and goals and assessing their effectiveness throughout the therapy process.
I worked at Stanford and the Menlo Park VA where I ran the Outpatient Mental Health Clinic before moving to the Napa Valley 20 years ago. I continue to offer Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to teenagers and adults in my private practice. I am now in my Napa office daily Monday-Friday 8:30-3:00 with occasional 4pm appointments.
I often use a team approach in my practice, especially when working with teenagers. Parents and guardians are pulled into sessions regularly and I consult often with teachers, school administrators, primary care physicians, psychiatrists, and nutritionists when appropriate.
