My ideal client would have a healthy dose of honestness, openness, and willingness. I don't expect for my clients to have specific goals or outcomes in the beginning, but an awareness that they want something to be different. Some of the issues I've worked with extensively over the years have been related to recovery from addiction, helping loved one's of an addict, co-dependency, trauma, and navigating an individual's emotions and how to understand and express them in a healthier way. It's about breaking away from insanity and moving toward serenity.
A lot of clients have shared with me that they feel safe with me and have the ability to be more vulnerable than with previous counseling experiences. I value providing unconditional positive regard for my clients and offering a place to feel seen and heard. I like to utilize brainspotting when clients feel stuck around certain events, traumas, or feelings.
