We don't have good words in the English Language for pain. We think of it as something that is almost completely physical. We assume that if someone can't point to a wound then they must not be in pain. Then when we try to express the pain we have to use words like depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, or addiction. Instead of just being able to say, "I am hurting, and I want to stop." My goal is to help you find ways to stop hurting. Healing is often painful itself, but there can be a life with less pain.
I believe that healing is not uniform, and must be individualized. I am trained in EMDR (by EMDR Consulting who is approved by EMDRIA), but I also utilize art techniques, mindfulness, and more cognitive behavioral strategies.
Therapy is scary and hard, I know, I have been on both sides of the couch. There is often so much pain that healing can feel impossible. For so many people the inside of their own mind is the scariest place in the world and the thought of going in there and cleaning it out is more terrifying than any horror movie. I believe in you.
