I am particularly effective working with people who come to therapy with histories of childhood trauma, including emotional, sexual and/or physical abuse, and family neglect and/or abandonment. I have a strong commitment to helping men come to grips with the pains, conflicts and deficits in their work and relational lives. At the same time, I believe I can be particularly helpful to women, as a male therapist, in their work with these kinds of issues. I work primarily with individual adults. I have expertise working with a wide range of issues, including substance abuse/dependence, depression and anxiety.
For me, psychodynamic/psychoanalytic psychotherapy involves experiencing unexplored parts of ourselves which underlie problematic attitudes and behaviors, within a safe, accepting environment. To do this, I prefer to work intensively with clients, focusing on self-awareness and self-understanding, and promoting long-term growth. Treatment is an investment in yourself.
Because I am a certified psychoanalyst, I can offer psychoanalysis to clients, including mental health students/practitioners, for a reduced fee. I offer professional supervision and consultation, too. I am also interested in working with twins and people troubled by their/others' involvement in cults or "high demand groups".
