Healing is a journey not a destination. I would be honored to support you and your child on this journey. My name is Keva and I am an LPC who has a strong passion for working with kids and adolescents 7-17, who have experienced trauma. I work with kids in helping them explore their emotions, understand body regulation, recognize unhealthy patterns and help them find new and healthier coping skills. I do this through play therapy, talk therapy and in any other way that may be healing for my client. I simply enjoy incorporating creative approaches to the needs of each client I work with.

In addition to servicing children and adolescents in a school and private setting, I have extensive experience working with adults and specialize in
self esteem
issues, trauma, family issues, adjustment to life changes, anxiety and sexual issues.
As a therapist, it is my belief that everyone deserves to have a safe empathic, non- judgmental environment to which they can begin to better understand themselves and others. Therapy provides the opportunity for growth and change and eventually, a better understanding of one's self. This process is a collaboration to discover the desired lifestyle and happiness we all want. I offer a non judgmental warm supportive environment to help my clients process and express themselves.

Struggling with finding your true voice? Hesitant in making the best decisions for yourself? Spending too much time worrying about what others think or what they'd expect of you? Take a deep breath... Life is complicated. Balancing work, family, relationships, living life for others can overshadow living for oneself. It's not selfish, it's selfcare. It's important to take the time to address your personal needs and often caring for others can get in the way of doing so. Through a Therapeutic Alliance, Counseling creates a space where sorting through life's challenges and establishing balance becomes possible.

Therapy is an incredible way to show ourselves holistic care, and it can look totally different for everyone seeking help. Maybe it’s time for a change, or you’re going through something hard. You may need support building new coping skills, unlearning harmful habits, or finding affirmation. Maybe you just need to feel less alone in this challenging world. Whatever your reason for coming in, I will be committed to helping you reach your goals, while we develop safety and trust. For LGBTQIA+ folks: I identify as queer and trans, if you’re looking for someone who can relate to your experiences.

Life is full of stressors, transitions, loss, celebrations, and everything in between. Human beings were created for connection and to live in relationship with one another. We were not made to walk through life alone. If you are heavily preoccupied with specific thoughts, facing life after a loss, or are feeling alone, then a positive resource could be a therapist. If you or your child/teen are simply having a hard time managing emotions, then I would be happy to work with you.

I believe that building
self esteem
is one of the key ingredients in successfully getting through most mental heath challenges.
I have a special interest in preserving children and families. I have also been successful in providing therapeutic solutions to younger and older adults. I am familiar with the struggles that many mental health challenges have on the routines of everyday life, such as school and work. I am also aware of the impact of mental heath challenges on the family. Stress, even though not seen to most as a mental health challenge can also be a reason that my services are sought.

“People start to heal, the moment they are heard.” – Cheryl Richardson. My therapeutic approach is quite eclectic and varies depending on the needs of my client. I typically implement techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy. I pride myself in meeting my clients where they are at in their lives. I believe that my clients are the experts of their own lives and flourish when they are given non-judgmental support and encouragement from their therapist. I work collaboratively with my clients and use my acquired skill sets to support them with achieving their individual goals.

Most people who contact me for therapy are serious about getting the help they need. They want a therapist they can trust. As a clinical social worker I work with my clients to help them identify their goals and challenges. Like most therapists I offer a safe environment, acceptance, and concern. I may also offer feedback and make suggestions but I believe that it is the client's responsibility to decide how they want to resolve their specific issues.

Welcome! I believe in a collaborative counseling relationship; you’ve known yourself all your life, and I’m just getting the opportunity to meet you. Therefore, the first part of therapy involves learning how you approach and view the world. Then, together, we’ll identify how therapy can meet your needs and assess progress along the way. I have a passion for working with adults in life transitions navigating higher education, career changes, relationships, and grief/loss.

I view counseling as a collaborative, creative process in which we work together to examine how your behavior, beliefs, and relationships are or are not meeting your current needs. Sometimes the coping strategies we've developed are no longer serving us, but we have not yet found a new way of being in the world. I believe in the power of relationships for healing and growth. As your therapist, I will facilitate a safe, judgment-free space in which we can explore problem areas, develop goals for an improved life, and work in a systematic fashion toward realizing those goals.

Currently in private practice in both Louisiana and Rhode Island, I offer individual therapy and psychological assessment to adults. Whether you have a problem to solve, goals to achieve or need emotional support, therapy can offer a safe space for an individual to disclose information and receive supportive, non-judgmental feedback, while learning skills to improve yourself. I am best suited to help you with mood difficulties, such as depression; self-esteem and identity problems; stress and anxiety; substance abuse problems; employment struggles; and relationship problems.

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?
When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.
What are the signs of low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.
What causes low self-esteem?
Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.
How can therapy improve self-esteem?
Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
