I began my career working with depression, trauma , and addiction recovery and have come to regard the recovery process as a holistic set of tools to be used by anyone looking to make changes in unhealthy patterns and behaviors.
Are you struggling to recognize yourself or the world around you? Perhaps experiences from your past are keeping you tethered in place and you are having trouble moving forward. Maybe you are starting a new chapter in your life after a big transition or life-changing event. Counseling is an excellent place to deep-dive inward, and offers the relief and safety of connection, intention, and a way back to yourself—the free, integrated self you’ve imagined. Counseling can also offer ways to close the uncomfortable gap between your anxious, stressed, current-reality and developing the wholehearted life you desire. Glad you're here!

I have worked at a number of different nonprofits around New Orleans in the past seven years including Crescentcare, Family Services of GNO and Silence Is Violence, my work at these nonprofits has influenced my approach to counseling and my client-therapist relationships. Working from a trauma -informed lens, I work to facilitate a collaborative and empowering approach to counseling. My theoretical approach stems from a radical social justice paradigm with the incorporation of liberation-based healing practices, expressive arts therapy, feminist, and relational-cultural theory. I work with both adults (18+ yrs old) and couples.

I specialize in working with clients and their families who live with substance and behavioral addictions, symptoms from trauma and those who might be in crisis.
I empower individuals and couples to change their perceptions about issues that are unhealthy and assist them in facilitating positive change. I approach therapy with clients from a wellness model (having issues they need assistance managing) as opposed to a medical model (being broken and needing to be fixed). My favorite quote is from Alfred Adler in 1927, "The hardest thing for human beings to do is to know themselves and to change themselves." I enjoy helping clients gain insight that can be helpful to facilitate change in perceptions and ultimately in their lives. I have evenings and weekend availability.

I will work with you to develop everyday skills to move beyond depression, anxiety, trauma , and long held anger.
Working toward a fulfilling life, while facing obstacles, can be hard. We all, at some point, find ourselves lost and stuck. I work collaboratively with clients to help them get through those stuck moments, to choose a direction, and to take steps toward the lives they really want. My methods are grounded in the proven Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which incorporates mindfulness and behavior-change strategies. Trauma is stored both in the mind and the body, so I use gentle somatic therapies (GST).
Have you seen a few therapists but felt that you were unable to get to the roots of your issues and experience transformational change and lasting relief? I believe that treating root traumas can lead to greater self-awareness. Desensitizing the body's threat response creates the internal safety to respond to situations in a healthier way. I work with clients who are looking for new ways to cope with life, and seek to change the behaviors and thinking patterns that are no longer serving them. The way that we think and feel about ourselves has a profound impact on our quality of life and how we work through our problems.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
