Sometimes we just need a band-aid to get us through a rough patch, and other times a deeper dive into long-standing patterns and struggles is the right focus - both are valid approaches! Choosing the right therapist is an important step, so let's chat about questions you might have and make sure you get the right fit. I work with individuals, couples, and children. I have specialized training in EMDR, Play Therapy, Behavioral Neuroscience, and have over 15 years of clinical experience. I am currently an LPC Board-approved clinical supervisor as well as an adjunct professor in Loyola's Counseling program.

You've had to be strong your whole life and are starting to realize the toll it's taking on you. You've come to recognize that childhood trauma is affecting you and your relationships, but you're not sure what to do. Pushing it down hasn't made it go away. So much of your time is spent taking care of others, while prioritizing your own needs can feel difficult. Maybe you've been told you're too sensitive, but secretly wonder if that sensitivity is actually a superpower in today's world. You've tried everything from reiki to astrology to talk therapy, yet none of it has fully addressed the pain you're feeling.

Birth always changes us. Pregnancy and postpartum days can be filled with expectation, uncertainty, joy, grief, and often multiple things at once. If you're in the middle of that season and it feels heavier or more complicated than anyone told you it would be, you don't have to carry it alone. I work with individuals and couples navigating birth trauma, postpartum mood and anxiety disorders, and the often disorienting experiences of becoming a parent.

I work from a CBT-based perspective to help you understand why you feel the way you do and help you make changes to feel better and relieve your symptoms.
We all hit roadblocks in our lives at some point. We experience issues we no longer feel able to manage alone, have problems we can't find our own solution to, or feel consumed by thoughts or emotions we can't seem to turn off. Sometimes we need an unbiased sounding board to bounce solutions and ideas off of. Sometimes we could use a little help incorporating new coping skills or problem-solving strategies into our lives. Sometimes we simply need someone to go on the journey with us. I'm here to do exactly that.

Most people come to therapy because something isn't working anymore. A child melts down over seemingly small things. A teenager shuts everyone out. A parent feels exhausted and unsure what else to try. Or maybe you've spent years holding it together while quietly wondering, “Why is this so hard?”

I enjoy helping clients take a breath, build confidence, see their patterns and its impact, understand their narratives, and find a path forward to manage uncertainty, and embrace the merging of old and new identities.

I am currently Licensed in both Oregon and Louisiana. While active listening is an important skill for a therapist, it can only go so far. All of the therapists in our group believe that what sets us apart from many others is the fact we actually help you help yourself make the necessary changes in your life by giving you techniques, tools, skills, and guidance to achieve your goals. You'll almost always walk out of a session with a new technique or two that you can go home and start using immediately. Our therapists are highly trained, personable, and ready to give you the skills and techniques you need.

I utilize modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Attachment-Based Therapy, & Family Systems to help clients untangle relational patterns and regulate their nervous systems.
I help adult adoptees and adoptive families navigating identity questions, adoption-related trauma, and complex relationship patterns so they can stop performing gratitude, build genuine self-worth, and trust their own stories. You might be feeling constantly on edge, tired of editing your story to keep others comfortable, or overwhelmed by the pressure to always appear 'fine.' Whether you are dealing with a persistent fear of rejection, hypervigilance, or the silent exhaustion of earning your place, you don't have to navigate it alone.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists
How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?
Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?
It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?
To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?
CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
