Hello. Thank you for viewing my profile. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a National Certified Counselor. I believe that for counseling to be successful there has to be a good working relationship between the counselor and client. I know that for someone coming into counseling there can be feelings of vulnerability and fear. I provide a compassionate, caring, nonjudgmental, trusting and peaceful environment in which my clients feel safe to be open and honest. I would love to have the opportunity to walk with you on your journey of personal discovery, change, healing and growth.

Are you concerned with your child’s communication skills? Are you fearful of the transitions your child is going through? Those concerns and fears are common. It takes strength and patience to be a parent of a child with behavioral issues. I create a safe environment to address the behavioral challenges life presents as your child evolves through the developmental stages of life. When working with you and your child, I will develop a unique treatment plan with emphasis placed on your child’s strengths.

Counseling can appear to be overwhelming and intimidating. However it does not have to be this way. As we seek validation and acceptance in our lives, there are certain paths that we must take to find them. I believe one of the most important things is for people to learn how to get along with other important people in their lives, such as friends, spouses, siblings, relatives, co-workers, etc. Additionally, I strongly believe that the fundamental relationship between a client and counselor is to foster openness, trust, and personal growth.

Kelly’s intention as a therapist is to create and maintain a trusting, reflective environment in which her clients can explore their cognitions, behaviors, feelings, and values. Kelly works from a person-centered approach, with the understanding that all clients and their experiences are unique. Kelly also considers the “systems” in which each individual is a part of. Together with her clients, Kelly will help expand the individual’s awareness of their identity and how each experience has influenced their mental health. Kelly believes that the therapeutic relationship is the most significant component of the healing process.

I want to thank you for considering to see me for counseling. Seeking professional help is not always an easy decision. I view counseling as a team process whereby the counselor and the client work together to develop a safe, trustworthy, nonjudgmental environment. This environment allows the client to freely explore life’s situation, confront any challenges and develop ways to better manage life.

What if I told you that there is place where you can feel safe, understood, and in control of your life? Congrats, you came to the right place! In life, we can often feel lost, alone, and disconnected from the world around us. In therapy, you and I can work together to take the steps to reach the goals that you want to accomplish. My goal is to create a safe and empathetic environment that you feel accepted and comfortable in.

We work with adults and couples to assist people with choosing solutions that help them improve their relationships by changing their behavior. We help clients look at their situations and problems as opportunities to explore their choices to work toward staying on track by meeting their goals in order to enhance their lives. We aid people in finding solutions for their problems instead of focusing only on the problem. This is a clinical outpatient setting and we help clients address all disorders listed in the Diagnostic Statistical Manual, 5th Edition - Text Revision (DSM-5-TR).

I have been a psychotherapist for 25 years. I see adults and adolescents. I do not see children, 11 and under.
Psychotherapy works best when the process seeks change. The focus of change needs to be delineated through a collaborative relationship between therapist and client.
As a Ph.D. I understand the importance of applying evidence based methods and staying updated in relation to the current state of knowledge. This underlies your effectiveness as a therapist.
Fees are reasonable and customary. I am on most major insurance panels.
My office is in a safe location. I am the sole occupant.

How can I find a therapist in Metairie?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
