Or maybe you are recently caring for your own parents or spouse and you are trying to figure out how to navigate this. Life is full of challenges, changes, and transitions and It can be hard to find our way through it. I enjoy helping parents and children navigate the complexities of separation, divorce, coparenting, and step- parenting .
I believe in short term, solution oriented therapy. Extra help and support are often needed to successfully navigate the challenges life brings you. I work with preteens, teens, young adults and adults who need support in working through a difficult situation or perhaps techniques to deal with anxiety and negative thoughts. Together we will set goals, work on them and perhaps you will be on your way in a short period of time.

If you often find yourself lost or stuck in a pattern of living, maybe even frustrated because nothing seems to change, you've found the right place. These behaviors, these feelings, and these mindsets feel out of our control sometimes. Whether you're an adult or a parent with a child - anyone can find themselves unsure of what to do. I enjoy working with adult individuals and children with their parents through confusing behaviors and emotions - building connection, helping to find clarity, and walking through healing of past or present relational wounds. Together, we create new meaning out of something that once felt so confusing.

As a therapist specializing in depression, anxiety, relationships, and addiction, I appeal to people struggling with feelings of hopelessness or helplessness, excessive anxiety, fatigue/low energy, low self-esteem, concentration or decision-making problems, mood swings, couple or family relationship problems, parenting issues, or over-reliance on alcohol/substances.
Therapy involves collaborating together to identify your strengths and to develop effective solutions to the issues, patterns, thoughts and actions you are experiencing in your life. I strive to provide clarification, encouragement, interpretation and information to facilitate you working toward your desired goals. Our emphasis will be on here-and-now choices to re-orient yourself to the present rather than just exploring the past. We all have an underlying drive to reach our maximum potential; I see therapy as a tool for uncovering that drive and finding self-actualization and my role is to encourage you in that exploration.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
