I am a licensed professional counselor and have worked with children and adults.
Hi, my name is Kim Davis, and I am so pleased that you have made a choice to find a professional counselor to assist you in reaching your full potential. I primarily subscribe to Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, which is more of an action-oriented approach to mental health. In counseling, that means that together we will examine your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and learn how to manage them in a more realistic, productive way. We will work to ensure those self-defeating thoughts no longer control your life! Please reach out with any questions and let’s get started on working through things together!

Navigating the counseling process can certainly be a challenge! If you feel I could be a good fit for you or your child , I welcome you to reach out via phone or email for a free 15 minute consultation.
Hi there, welcome to my page! Here’s a bit about my approach to counseling: I am a highly relational individual and see the client-counselor relationship as the foundation to all meaningful therapy. I believe that each one of us intrinsically possesses unique value and is deserving of love, respect, and the opportunity to evolve. I believe that my clients, both adults and children , are the experts on themselves. It is my intention to create a non-judgmental space and support my clients as they excavate through the layers that prevent them from accessing their natural intuition, and move in the direction of growth.

I believe in the power of creative interventions, so my work with children , teens, and young adults often harnesses the therapeutic power of play, sandtray, and art-based interventions.
My clients often are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and anxious because of life changes and constant feelings of worry and overwhelm. The kids, teens, and young adults I work with often need to feel heard and set goals of better understanding their big emotions. A major part of this work is including parents and caregivers to provide tools and strategies that can help at home. My clients often have trouble expressing their deepest feelings and want to have better relationships with friends and family. Anxiety sometimes feels like it gets in the way of close relationships, but, together, we can discover new ways to reconnect.

I also specialize in working with younger children /adolescents and empowering parents for better family dynamics.
Therapy involves collaborating together to identify your strengths and to develop effective solutions to the issues, patterns, thoughts and actions you are experiencing in your life. I strive to provide clarification, encouragement, interpretation and information to facilitate you working toward your desired goals. Our emphasis will be on here-and-now choices to re-orient yourself to the present rather than just exploring the past. We all have an underlying drive to reach our maximum potential; I see therapy as a tool for uncovering that drive and finding self-actualization and my role is to encourage you in that exploration.

I work with children and adults using Person-Centered, Solution-Focused, Reality Therapy, and other evidenced-based techniques as they fit clients' needs.
Struggling with finding your true voice? Hesitant in making the best decisions for yourself? Spending too much time worrying about what others think or what they'd expect of you? Take a deep breath... Life is complicated. Balancing work, family, relationships, living life for others can overshadow living for oneself. It's not selfish, it's selfcare. It's important to take the time to address your personal needs and often caring for others can get in the way of doing so. Through a Therapeutic Alliance, Counseling creates a space where sorting through life's challenges and establishing balance becomes possible.

I thrive when working with children , adolescents, and families who are interested in making positive changes in their lives. When difficulties arise in a child ’s life, their developmental level makes them more likely to utilize unhelpful coping skills and thought processes that can be carried into adulthood. In order to change this narrative, the child must be taught how to understand and express their needs, thoughts, and emotions in productive ways. As a counselor who specializes in play therapy, I have learned how to communicate and teach these skills through the child 's first language.

Child Therapists

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?

Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How long are sessions with child therapists?

Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.

How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?

The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?

A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
