The types of therapy I provide include EMDR , Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Positive Psychology and coping skills training.
Navigating through the human experience can be difficult and overwhelming at times. Deciding to seek guidance in times of struggle may seem daunting; however, my goal as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker is to walk alongside you on your journey. My desire to empower those in need began shortly after I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of six. I was inspired by my healthcare providers, whose personalized care, support, and knowledge provided the foundation for living a healthy and fulfilling life.

My therapy practice has a special focus in helping clients struggling with anxiety, depression, phobias, obsessive and compulsive cycles, and trauma or PTSD through evidence based treatments like ERP, EMDR , and CBT / DBT.
When you're feeling overwhelmed and tired from endless worrying or obsessive thought cycles, you find yourself avoiding more, overthinking more, and trying to prevent or predict anything that can go wrong. People tell you to "just relax" or that "there's nothing to worry about", but if it were that easy, you would have already done that. You begin to feel depressed, miserable, and stuck. It seems like you’ve tried everything, but nothing seems to work, at least not for very long.

Utilizing various neuropsychology, EMDR , somatic techniques, parts work, & Mindfulness-Based techniques, I work with trauma, coping skills, self-esteem & identity issues, anxiety, life transitions, anger, grief, LGBTQIA+, communication issues, boundaries, depression, holistic energy practices, healthcare/service professionals & more.
Do you feel connected to yourself, your relationships, and your life? Do you have the mental space to be mindful? My work focuses on connection: to yourself & everything around you. Therapeutic transformation happens when the mind, body, and spirit are energetically synchronized. Developing healthy self-awareness is one of the most important steps in healing. I teach my clients to do this by bringing to the surface and working with parts of the self that have been repressed, rejected, judged, and/or hidden. I also work with people on understanding and managing their attachment styles & relationships.

As an EMDR therapist, I use EMDR to work with clients who have experienced trauma. I sometimes use DBT with clients who struggle with emotion regulation and for whom EMDR is not a good fit. I assist many clients who struggle in their relationships with unhealthy, narcissistic, or addicted partners. I also assist clients struggling with anxiety, OCD, and depression. I am an Attachment theorist and feel it is beneficial to incorporate one's childhood into the therapeutic process (though it may or may not be the focus of treatment).

I also use EMDR , an evidence based trauma therapy which helps integrate difficult memories by facilitating the brain activating both hemispheres a normal process which is interrupted by trauma.
I work primarily with issues of depression, anxiety, child abuse, neglect, grief, and trauma. Helping someone through difficult issues is a collaboration between therapist and client. It takes courage to show up for therapy and trust someone to help! I practiced and taught meditation as a means for recovering from trauma for 30 years before becoming a therapist. Meditation develops a stronger, calmer mind, but doesn't completely clear psychological issues, unless you've the luxury of years of intense practice. For faster results than talk therapy or meditation alone, I integrate them to build self-awareness and stability.

My approach is shaped by a combination of training in somatic & trauma-focused methods, including EMDR , Polyvagal Theory & Neurobiology-informed play therapy - using a client-centered, interpersonal, humanistic framework.
It's my understanding that emotions are my mind and body's way of telling me something about my life experience. However, emotions can be uncomfortable, scary, and overwhelming. It requires vulnerability and courage to ask for help getting to understand these feelings better. I strive to help clients better understand their life experiences and feelings however they may show up. I have seen clients with trauma, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, existential issues, codependency, behavioral issues, grief, divorce, family conflict, autism, ADHD, & more. I work with children as young as 3 years old, adolescents, adults, & families.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
