What is keeping you from feeling fully alive in each moment? I offer a warm atmosphere to address whatever is keeping you from feeling fully alive. I believe that pain and struggles in life can be turned into opportunities to grow and find more peace in both our lives and relationships. My belief is that healing happens in the context of a supportive and nonjudgmental relationship. My work focuses on helping people develop the skills they need to thrive and to discover things in themselves that may be preventing them from experiencing a genuine connection with others.

We offer counseling, meditation, and fitness training. But above all else, our work is about power. Consider the problems in your life. With improved discipline, optimal health and fitness, wealth generated through an enjoyable profession or business far above your financial obligations, clear communication and negotiation skills, and a working knowledge of your emotional mechanisms, of strategy and tactics, and of logic and rational inquiry, how would your life change? What would happen to your energy level and mood? what goals would you meet? Who else could you help?

My primary clinical focus is working with clients suffering from trauma (PTSD/C-PTSD), anxiety, and OCD, among a host of other issues. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is helping my clients move toward a sense of safety, security, and regulation, whether it means moving through single event traumas or more hard to define traumas. I have a special affinity for helping budding and established mental health professionals, but enjoy helping people from all backgrounds and walks of life. My primary goal in therapy is to extend a sense of unconditional positive regard to my clients - a space for them to safety explore and heal.

My personal experiences of major illness, climate chaos and my years as a virtual executive consultant working internationally since 2000 is what distinguishes me from others.
My consulting practice is rooted in soul and informed by science. To possess the psychological mindedness and spirit required to pivot when your plans have been uprooted due to collective or personal events not imagined much less foreseen, is daunting even for the most accomplished of us. In the 90s, at the height of my career, I had to learn how to reorient psychologically and spiritually as well as financially in order to move forward. Since then, my professional experience includes a clinical internship and continued advanced post grad trainings in Freudian and Jungian psychologies including archetypal patterning recognition.

With 16 years of experience treating trauma and anxiety, as well as a special interest supporting people living with chronic pain and complex conditions like EDS, I often work with medical trauma and health related anxiety.
As an EMDRIA approved Consultant with certifications in EMDR, Brainspotting, and Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy, I offer evidenced-based psychotherapy. Stress, anxiety, and trauma overwhelm our systems. Symptoms can manifest in unexpected ways. There may be an identifiable trigger or we may not know why we feel the way we do. These brain-body modalities work with the self-healing aspects of our biology, restoring balance to the nervous system, and influencing neural patterning so that deep and lasting change can occur. Intensives/ customized accelerated therapy programs are available.

I believe that life can be an adventure, but it can be hard to have faith in healing when emotional pain becomes our baseline.
Do you ever feel torn between two parts of you? Do you sometimes feel disconnected from yourself and the people you love? Do you ever have thoughts in your head that scare you? These are all NORMAL experiences that we can seek help for and find relief from. Are you ready to get to the root of painful feelings? My name is Michael Crosby, and my friends describe me as fiercely loyal and intensely curious about human beings. My therapeutic approach can be summarized as “getting down to the bone.”

I have extensive experience working with clients who are dealing with issues related to addiction, substance abuse, chronic illness, HIV, and gender & sexuality (LGBTQIA+), in addition to treating struggles with stress, depression, and anxiety.
Sometimes you know what the issue is and you need to find the right person to support you in making change. Other times you need support to help you identify what needs to change. There are also times when something is beyond your control, but I can help you learn to control how you respond and how your response impacts your wellbeing. We can work together to implement change in your thought patterns or behaviors in order to reduce distress and improve your quality of life. And life feels pretty hard now. Everyone could use some extra support.

Sometimes it feels like your illness runs your life. Each morning, you wake up wondering if it will be a “bad day" or a "good day" knowing that your body will make that decision. You might have migraines, stomach issues, and even chronic pain. Maybe you’re overwhelmed with managing a chronic illness, organizing doctor’s appointments, and keeping track of symptoms. You feel embarrassed at the thought of feeling bad when you go out - so you just don't go out. You're obsessed with “eating clean” or you have lost the ability to tell when you’re full or hungry because you feel so disconnected from your body and your cues.

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
