Therapy is more than just talking- it's intentional conversation through which I strive to create a safe, healthy environment for you to process life experiences. In your first session with me I will prioritize understanding your history and focusing on how that history may be impacting your experiences today. From there, we focus on symptom management, treatment goals, improving relationships, and healing from past trauma. I believe our bodies keep the score, so while your mind may not hold onto traumatic or troublesome thoughts, our bodies store this information, resulting in somatic experiences that I will help you work through.

In today’s busy way of life, we rarely stop for a moment for self-care. But if our cup is empty, how can we pour into anyone else’s? Through my passion of helping others, I use the counseling session as one where the client(s) and I collaborate to improve everyday life. A safe space is created where we explore and define presenting problems, develop future goals for an improved life, and implement change. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I utilize evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and other approaches that fit the client(s) needs.

I have the privilege of serving clients from many diverse backgrounds. I work with an exceptional multidisciplinary team to help patients who are coping with substance abuse. Many of our patients have not seen a medical provider in years & suffer from uncontrolled physical & psychological illnesses. Patients come to us because their addiction has isolated them from family & friends. Many are unable to find stability in their lives due to substance abuse. We formulate a care plan that is patient centered to help patients meet their anticipated goal. We often surpass patients’ goals with the intense treatment they receive at Woodlake.

We all have a story we tell ourselves about our worth as a human being. That story is influenced by our experiences. Sometimes the story is positive and beneficial. Other times, the story creates negative beliefs that prevent inner happiness and healthy relationships with others, as well as ourselves. I believe we can change the unhealthy stories we tell ourselves.

Suffering with stress, anxiety, sadness, difficult family relationships, or anger and not knowing where it’s coming from could feel as if there is no way you can feel better. It can feel as if you will never be “normal” and that it’s so far away from being the person you want to be. “I wish I wasn’t like this, I wish I can be like everyone else, my anxiety is controlling my life” It doesn’t have to! Change is possible, and it starts by recognizing that something needs to change in order to heal. Congrats on making it this far, now lets build your bridge that leads to change!

With 10 years of experience working with all ages, I specialize in anxiety, depression, codependency, trauma, divorce, perfectionism, relationship issues, self-esteem, aging, women’s issues and life transitions. I particularly enjoy individuals who are open-minded, motivated, and willing to do the work while trusting the therapeutic process. It is so important to be willing to try new things by venturing out of your comfort zone during our time together. By not having to rely strictly on medication to mask your issues, therapy teaches you to cope with life’s struggles, and thus change your fearful view of the world.

In the therapy room, I love working with folks who find that they are struggling to fit in and connect with others - folks who might not feel that they have someone who GETS them. Maybe you feel like the black sheep of your family. Maybe you feel like you stand out in your community in some way. Perhaps you're ready to make some changes and feel nervous about how the new you will be accepted. I'm here to be a support and a guide, when needed, as you begin your new journey. Additionally, I love working with women and parents, with folks trying to learn how to live lives more true to their core values, and with folks in relationship.

Life is full of complex challenges that can make change seem daunting. Often, we find ourselves stuck in old patterns that are preventing us from making the changes we want in our lives. Clinging to these patterns that feel safe and comfortable can hinder personal growth and transformation, but embracing uncertainty, though challenging, is often necessary for reaching our goals and becoming the person we want to be. As a dedicated counselor, I understand the difficulties that come with breaking free from these patterns and I want to make sure you don’t feel like you have to do it all on your own.

Have you found yourself stuck in a repeating loop? That's a great place for us to start our conversation. We will both establish a framework for what improvement looks like and for the general structure of therapy in our first meeting. If our agreed upon expectations for therapy are not being met, I hope you will feel comfortable enough with me to let me know, otherwise we may find ourselves just as stuck as when you first came in. Generally speaking, my goal is to get you out of therapy as quickly as possible, both for the sake of your wallet and for the sake of your own personal growth.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
