Our first session will be spent getting background information on each other, the main reason you wanted to start therapy, and some simple coping skills to help with whatever is causing distress so that you have something to take away from even the first session.
I try very hard to create a positive therapeutic alliance, so I spend time getting to know you before I try to do or say anything that might seem “judgmental,” because until I have learned more about you, I cannot help you navigate your situation. Having that trust and rapport is most important!
