Danville Counseling Center is dedicated to serving the emotional and mental health needs in our community. Our office is located in downtown Danville and houses ten qualified mental health professionals. Our staff specializes in the treatment of depression, anxiety, addiction and helping you recover from traumatic experiences through the use of progressive treatments including EMDR and TF-CBT. At Danville Counseling we believe in treating the whole person by coming to understand the stressors that are taking place and helping you build resiliency and coping skills to improve overall wellness.
I believe that we have to be able to live and deal with stressors and issues in the present to achieve success, joy and peace that we want for ourselves. Life situations and/or Mental Illness can keep these from happening. Having that neutral person that doesn't know all about your business can be helpful. My specialty focus lies in dealing with Depression, ADHD, Marriage Therapy, Autism, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Infant loss, and Trauma. I have experience with kids, adolescents and adults. Approaches used are (CBT, Psychodynamic Therapy, Gottman Method and Play Therapy) effective with children, adolescents and adults.
I select clinical approaches designed to provide you with brief, solution-focused therapy. From the first session, my goal is to individualize treatment to meet your specific needs and provide you with a safe and validating environment to process life stressors. My mission is to help you reach your personal goals. Whether you want to enhance your health and wellness, improve your relationships, obtain relief from problematic symptoms or resolve life challenges. We will work towards these goals together In a thorough manner that maximizes your resources and time.
I believe that we are all individuals with unique issues and therapy should be as unique and individualized as we are. I have a passion for helping those who struggle with substance abuse, trauma, self-image/self-esteem, anxiety and relational issues. I feel with encouragement and support, we can process and develop the skills needed to face those issues and move forward. I believe in autonomy and authenticity.
If you are struggling to connect with your spouse or partner, you desire a deeper level of intimacy, and you feel a desire to strengthen your relationships, I am someone who can help. I am currently available for short term work through the summer or for relationship intensive weekends. I work alongside you, I work at your pace, and I use techniques that are research based.
Your life feels like it is spinning out of control and you are finding yourself drinking more to cope. It started out as a few beers at the end of the day but now you can hardly recognize who you have become. Your friends and family are worried about you and they don't even know how bad it really has gotten. You feel like you are living a double life and are exhausted from keeping it up.
I have many years of experience working with early childhood trauma and severe, persistent mental illness, varying from ages of 5 years to 70+. My goal is to empower and advocate for positive change within you, as the individual, and the system as a whole. The place that we will create together is a safe and judgement free space. I work through an Existential foundation, to help those I work with seek meaning and purpose, with skills built from experience with Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Cognitive Behavior Therapy, all within the context of a trauma-informed approach.
That nagging feeling inside of your chest that tightens when you stop for too long has you searching the internet again. You find yourself worrying about failing again and it keeps you up at night. This immense pressure to be your best keeps you moving but spend your days fearful of falling behind and not being enough. You hide in your car and bedroom to catch your breath and take your mask off for a moment. Everyone in your life thinks you are doing great and wouldn't suspect that you spend most of your days feeling like a fraud. What if you could find peace with your failures and find healthy ways to feel confident in your future?
Making the decision to begin counseling can seem difficult and overwhelming. My goal is to provide a welcoming, nonjudgmental environment for us to explore things in your life that have been bothering you. I believe once you better understand yourself, it is easier to explore why you do the things you do and what to do to change this in order to live the life you want.
I have worked with children and adults aged 5 and up with various disorders including substance use disorders, depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, ODD, Bipolar, mood disorders, personality disorders, and those in the LGBTQ+ community. I currently sit as the Estill County Specialty Court Counselor as an advocate for individuals in Drug Court and recovery. I enjoy working with and welcoming all individuals. “Being able to be your true self is one of the strongest components of good mental health.” - Lauren Fogel Mersy, n.d. My goal is to help you build your good mental health by utilizing evidence-based therapy.
