Maybe you've been told what you're experiencing is “normal,” but it doesn't feel normal to you. Anxiety, intrusive thoughts, grief, hormonal changes, pregnancy loss, fertility challenges, or the transition into parenthood may have left you wondering, “Why didn't anyone tell me this could feel this hard?” You deserve to feel understood—not dismissed.

Anxiety, ADHD, chronic illness, OCD - it affects every aspect of your day-to-day. Or maybe you're in the depths of motherhood, exhausted and overwhelmed from carrying the never-ending mental load of your household, and wondering if things will ever get easier. So many things in life are out of our control, leaving us to feel helpless that anything will change. You may feel burned out and can’t seem to figure out how to get out of this cycle. Now more than ever, people are feeling the pressure to do all the things in all their roles - perfectly. It's unsustainable - which you know, or you wouldn’t be here reading this.

You just want the pain, chaos, and emptiness you feel to go away once and for all. Whether it is eating secretly to comfort yourself, having to drink every night to sleep, pushing yourself to achieve, or isolating yourself. Attempting to balance family, work, and your self-care can feel overwhelming and tends to end with you feeling worse about yourself and how you can't get it together. Shame and guilt keep you stationary where you are, and if you had to admit that things were not where you wanted you might actually crumble. Let's figure out a new normal, together.

You may be feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or stretched thin from being the one others rely on - whether at work, in your family, or in your relationships. On the outside, you may appear composed, while privately feeling drained, second-guessing yourself, or unsure how to set boundaries without guilt. I work with women who often feel responsible for others and are ready to stop carrying so much on their own. My approach is calm, grounded, and centered on creating a steady space where you can better understand your needs, build clearer boundaries, and move forward with more steadiness, confidence, and faith.

You’re the one keeping everything moving — the schedules, the needs, the details that only you seem to notice. But in the middle of all that giving, who’s taking care of you? If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck in painful patterns, or disconnected—from yourself or in your relationships—you’re not alone. Maybe you find yourself overreacting and then regretting it, shutting down when things feel too intense, or repeating the same conflicts over and over. You might struggle with self-doubt, people-pleasing, or feeling like you’re “too much” or “not enough” at the same time. For many individuals, these patterns are rooted in early relationships—especially the relationship with their mother or primary caregiver.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
