Navigating life with all of its twists and turns can be very overwhelming. It can be difficult to figure out which pathway to choose towards stability, understanding and comfortability. I believe we can find our way by connecting our emotions, thoughts and feelings to our reality. I am passionate about slowing down our thoughts, engaging our emotions and finding connection points along the way.

It's easy to judge. It's more difficult to understand. Through judging, we separate. Through understanding, we grow. (Doe Zantamata) Therapy can be hard, it can be awkward, and it can be messy, but it's also where the magic happens to self discovery, healing, forgiveness and strength. Do you struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, or just to see the light? You are not the only one, and you do not have to sit in the dark alone. In therapy I use researched based treatments such as EMDR, solution focused and CBT techniques to help you live as your best self. I will meet you where you are at, and work toward your healing together.

I work primarily with folks who have experienced trauma, mainly sexual assault and domestic violence.
Clients who come to me are people that have experienced very heavy things, and need a quiet place to unpack that. I believe that the person seeking therapy is the driver of change, and I help them navigate obstacles as they happen. Their goals are to figure out who they are now, and how they react to the changes that have happened after trauma. They want to challenged, and they want support as they take next steps.

I'm skilled at working with emotional & sexual abuse/ assault.
I have over 25 years experience helping adults overcome cPTSD/PTSD, food addiction, childhood trauma, anxiety, women's issues and grief. I believe life circumstances may cause disruptions in our well-being but I believe there are natural forces within us that can be harnessed. My clients often find me after years of therapy - sometimes they feel they haven't made much progress; often, they've hit a 'stuck point' they can't seem to move past. My goal is to facilitate clients' integrated healing so they may live authentically.

If life taught you your body wasn't safe, your needs didn't matter, or your worth depended on being “good”, you're probably exhausted. Maybe you feel disconnected from yourself, anxious for reasons you can't explain, or weighed down by guilt just for existing. You overthink everything, struggle to trust yourself and wonder why you're still stuck even though you understand what happened to you. I work with women healing from sexual trauma, religious trauma, faith deconstruction, complex trauma, anxiety and chronic stress. Many have spent years people-pleasing, staying hypervigilant, or feeling like they have to earn their worth.

Are you feeling disconnected from yourself and from others? Maybe you are finding yourself feeling numb, anxious, or hopeless. Do you find yourself reliving your worst experiences - or maybe even avoiding people or situations that remind you of them. Your trauma may even have left you believing you’re worthless, unlovable, or broken. Isolation, anger, irritability, feeling stuck, and difficulties with trust are all common reactions to trauma, but there is hope.

I believe treatment should be navigated delicately and without judgement. We are more than our current situation, which is why I work to understand what it took to get you where you are today, including your strengths. I'm most passionate about helping people work through trauma and relationships with themselves or others. I take a holistic approach to healing, while also utilizing evidence-based methods to help you explore feelings that you may have struggled to find or articulate. Sometimes our human experience can affect us in ways we wish it didn’t, and I'd like to help you improve in areas that need most attention.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
