Boundary setting, coping skills, mindfulness,
positive psychology
, unhealthy habits, 'stuck'ness, questioning, curiosity and relational work (of all kinds) are some of my favorite collaborative works.
I have experience working with adults, adolescents, couples and families. As a marriage and family therapist, my approach to therapy is systemic and takes into consideration the significance of relationships, environment and context. My intention as a therapist is to cultivate a supportive relationship with each individual, and to provide a therapeutic sacred space for the expression of your unique needs, goals, losses, and accomplishments. Collaboratively through discussion, mindfulness and practical goal setting, you will explore what is helpful for you (and yours) and what no longer serves you, in order to achieve growth.

Nancy Leigh Plymale
Art Therapist, MA, ATR-BC, LPAT
I absolutely am passionate about encouraging others to make the time to nurture their mental well being and health, across all ages and populations. Adding the expressive and creative techniques I am trained in accelerates growth and change by tapping into the right part of the brain and provides a fun and creative way to problem solve and engage with each other. The sand tray, storytellling, and expessive arts are for all ages and no talent needed just an open mind. Traditional talk therapy is always an option and I meet each client where they are at for that session.

Over the last three years, you've worked to stay positive and focused. But a constant hum of problems has taken job stress and arguments to a new level. You've pushed on and shrugged off healthy habits that could motivate you, saying, "It'll be better when (this) happens or we get back to normal." Too tired to take advice like 'prioritize, be creative, find a new strategy.' You just try to dig deep, not lose your mind or your marriage! So you keep moving, bury the emotion, and wish away exhaustion and negativity. You know what's helped in the past. But the stress seems like it's out of control. Better to ignore it and press on.

Sometimes life is just feels like too much to deal with. A painful life experience can leave you with overwhelming feelings of sadness and anxiety. You may feel that you can't talk to anyone about this and no one will understand. You just wish you could forget all of the bad memories and the things that bring you down.

Positive Psychology Therapists
How does positive psychology therapy work?
Positive psychology therapy derives from the work of Martin Seligman of the University of Pennsylvania. He and others developed the field of positive psychology building on humanistic theory. Positive psychology therapy is similar to acceptance and commitment therapy, and it essentially quiets emotional distress through positivity, contentment, and well-being. This therapy does not reduce the individual to symptoms and conditions.
When do I know if I need treatment using positive psychology?
If an individual is overwhelmed by emotional distress and general negativity, they may feel trapped. A positive psychology therapist can help them view their emotions and behaviors differently, and approach life with a better understanding of their positive strengths. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from positive psychology therapy?
The patient may be asked to explore their signature strengths. The therapist will also ask the individual to talk about their goals, which should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. Discussing negative experiences and symptoms is important, but so is the exploration of positive experiences. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more positive and fulfilling way. This therapy is proactive and may use forgiveness, gratitude, hope, and compassion to help reframe negativity.
Is positive psychology effective in therapy?
Positive psychology therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with eating disorders benefit from this type of intervention. This therapy encourages the person to reframe their distressed thoughts and move into healthier patterns of functioning. This therapy also aims to move an individual toward what works well in their life. Positive psychology therapy can elicit lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
