When someone is faced with emotional pain, knowing what to do is difficult and counseling can be freightening. As a marriage & family therapist and social worker, it is my practice to provide a safe environment for clients to resolve their issues of concern. Using the client's expertise of self as a vital part of my team is solicited and used along with my life experience and educational knowledge to make positive changes. Validation and client strengths are part of the therapeutic process. Feeling in control of one's situation and finding hope for a healthy future can be expected.

While I will work with you from a foundation of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I will utilize Mindfulness and Self-Compassion to further guide our collaboration in a confidential, nonjudgmental environment.
Are you feeling overwhelmed? As a Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, I have strategies to help. No one early in life says, "I hope to feel out of control, stressed and anxious when I'm an adult." Yet, so many intelligent, well-intentioned, hard-working individuals find themselves experiencing these kinds of challenges at times. I treat adults who are facing such obstacles and I am fiercely on your side as we collaborate to transform these challenges and support you to meet your goals.

Is financial stress silently eroding your peace of mind or your relationship? You may look like you have it all together, but underneath, you’re overwhelmed by money worries, decision fatigue, or tension at home. Many of my clients are competent people who feel stuck—battling burnout, anxiety, or conflict with their partner about spending and saving. Whatever brings you in, I offer a clear path forward. I am Dr. Collin Davidson, a Board Certified Psychologist (ABPP)—a distinction achieved by fewer than 4% of psychologists. I combine this clinical expertise with specialized training in Financial Therapy.

Reaching out for a therapist is a courageous step on the path to change and personal growth. Oftentimes we are unable to make positive changes in our life because overwhelming emotions, negative thoughts and unproductive behavioral patterns block us from moving forward. Even when we know exactly what to do next, we can find ourselves unable to take the necessary steps to initiate change. My approach to therapy is collaborative, direct and compassionate. We will work together to address and contain your immediate challenges, to process unresolved issues and to help you find a deeper connection with the world around you.

I am passionate about the power of mindfulness and have used DBT and ACT, which I have also received training in, to help people build mindfulness practices.
Therapy is an existential process — diving into your internal world, as well as exploring the relationships that connect you to people and communities outside of yourself. It can be intimidating to seek someone you trust to safely accompany you on that expedition. My hope is to be your collaborative, calm, and cooperative travel companion. I love working with couples and families seeking someone to help them connect with one another and heal damaged bonds. In the words of Ram Dass, “We are all just walking each other home.”

You may be a parent wondering how to truly help, or you may be someone navigating life transitions or just feeling stuck. You desire to feel connected and long for hope to rise up again. You want to feel steady, confident, and supported. You may just need a space to breathe and remember what brings you peace. You're ready for change, not just for today but for your future. I hold a master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and use IFS, somatic therapy, and mindfulness to help adults heal anxiety, overthinking, and stress at the root - especially when they've been holding it all together for too long.
You look like you have it together, thoughtful, responsible, and self-aware, but inside you feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck. I specialize in working with emotionally insightful, adults who are quietly struggling with anxiety, chronic stress, or the long-term effects of growing up in emotionally confusing or unpredictable environments. You might understand the roots of your stress, and anxiety, but insight hasn’t made it easier to feel calm or to stop managing your worries. I offer a deeper style of therapy that helps you truly heal so you can move through life with peace and groundedness, connected to your authentic self.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
