If it’s you , feeling isolated , depressed , anxious, or just having a hard time connecting to yourself or others, you have come to the right place, it will be my privilege to work with you.
At times you find that you struggle to remember your value and to honor your own limitations and boundaries. This results in feeling insecure, anxious, tired, stressed and unseen for all the amazing things that you add to other's lives. Maybe this is because of those experiences while growing up, or perhaps it stems from all of those awkward social and professional experiences? Or maybe, even at this age, there are needs and desires that you are still waiting to receive from others, that you've never been able to provide for yourself.

I work with children, teens, and adults struggling with the impact of trauma, depression , domestic violence, and adjustment issues.
Are you struggling to cope with a traumatic event? Do you feel like life is beating you up? Are you feeling defeated before your day gets started? Life’s hardships can be difficult to maneuver and can cause a decline in day to day functioning. That decline may show up in mood changes, increased anxiety, difficulty connecting with others, or lack of interest in the things you once enjoyed. If you’re feeling like life is beating you, don’t fight that battle alone. You can overcome these hardships, take back your life, and prevail.

I welcome the process of identifying and collaboratively problem-solving issues that affect your quality of life - anxiety, depression , life transitions, conflicts, parenting, etc.
Finding the true origin of an issue or challenge, as well as exploring skill sets and solution paths to address this, is an ever-evolving and interesting journey. I enjoy embarking on this journey with kids, teens and adults. I utilize a strengths-based, reality-based, motivational approach. Interventions are guided by evidence-based practices and good ol' trial and error... since every person is unique. My therapy dog, Boss Paws, sometimes joins in. He may give a nudge of support or simply look cute (like fuzzballs do) and provide an element of anxiety relief. He's cool like that!

What part of your life is the source of feelings of depression , anxiety, low self esteem, or moodiness? It can be difficult to develop a level of self awareness in which we can distinguish the root cause of having poor quality of life. I specializes in Cognitive Behavioral therapy which is geared towards aiding individuals in developing a self awareness of unhealthy thinking habits that hinder individuals from achieving their best quality of life. I also utilizes Brief Solution Focused therapy strategies, which aid the client in progressing in treatment in the most time efficient manner possible.

My field experience includes but not limited to, depression , anxiety, severe and persistent mental illness, stress management, school and work performance and grief and loss.
My ideal client is focused upon personal growth and healing. Someone who looks at their barriers, but also utilizes their strengths to overcome or minimize those barriers. My ideal client understands at times we all need help, and simply want someone to walk beside them on their journey. One of the most challenging things you may be faced with is trying to understand why you are the way you are, or why you behave the way you do. Instead, I want you to stop looking at your faults, your mistakes, the "what if's" and remember, one of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your own story.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
