We will then process them through your body and mind using bilateral stimulation (the method that EMDR utilizes) to lessen negative thinking and the pain that the body holds in order to bring you to a more peaceful baseline.
Are you tired of being stuck in the same repetitive negative thought loops and limiting beliefs? Are you tired of not having the relationships or opportunities that you want? Are you struggling with declining health, panic attacks or anxiety? Have you tried to talk it out in therapy, but it just doesn't seem to get anywhere? Are you craving a more creative, expansive form of therapy that will help you make more progress in a shorter amount of time that allows you to take less time off of work and less time away from other things that you value in life? I offer EMDR intensives that will satisfy all of these concerns.

I work with clients who struggle with executive functioning, depression, anxiety, chronic illness, and burnout.
Do you struggle with anxiety, depression, motherhood, or ADHD that affects every aspect of your day-to-day? Do you feel exhausted and overwhelmed from carrying the never-ending mental load of your household? Do you wonder if things will ever get easier? So many things in life are out of our control, leaving us to feel helpless that anything will change. You may feel burned out, exhausted, and can’t seem to figure out how to get out of this cycle. Now more than ever, people are feeling the pressure to do all the things in all their roles - perfectly. This is unsustainable - which you know, or you wouldn’t be here reading this.

These include Autism Spectrum, ADHD/ADD, mood disorders, anxiety, chronic illness, and eating challenges.
We are here and now; but is your past a healthy part of it? The past can be a time of learning and moving forward, or it can be a red light in our lives and freeze us in that moment of time. It can paralyze us. Or, it can have us living in a world of caution lights where we fearfully drift through them, unaware of the present or future, or vigilantly white knuckling our way, just existing and just “getting through” each day. How we come to terms with the past, forgiving our mistakes and others’ faults can catapult us into a more peaceful and fulfilling life.

Cerebral palsy and a lifetime as a wheelchair user has given me unique insight into chronic illness, anxiety, and feeling “othered” by society.
I love the “oddballs”, the “weirdos”, the “square peg in a round hole” type folks. I work with adults and teens though trauma and related disorders, grief and bereavement, identity issues, and of course, disability and chronic illness. Taking a nod from Lao Tzu, simplicity patience, and compassion are my core values.

How does chronic pain therapy work?
Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.
What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?
Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.
Are there new treatments for chronic pain?
Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.
How long does therapy for chronic pain take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
