Many of the teens and adults I work with come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, emotionally exhausted, or frustrated by patterns that seem to repeat in their lives, relationships, or work. Others are seeking greater clarity and understanding of emotional, behavioral, cognitive, or interpersonal challenges. Through psychotherapy and psychological testing, I help individuals better understand themselves, build on their strengths, and develop practical ways to move forward.

Our lives are often filled with many uncertainties and at times, maneuvering through various life-events can be overwhelming. For those who have experienced grief, loss, trauma or relational issues, know that you're not alone. You're greater than the sum total of any difficulties you've faced! Your circumstances do not decrease your value.

I have been a clinical psychologist and Christian for many years.
Depression, anxiety, mood swings, anger, and relationship issues can all have a profoundly negative impact on your life.  People will often try to cope by turning to alcohol, drugs, and excessive electronic usage — as a way of avoiding dealing with these issues. While it is necessary to work through these negative coping patterns, it is more important to get to the underlying issues that fuel these behaviors. As a Clinical Psychologist, I have helped people identify these underlying issues, and then deal with them effectively. The goal is to get at the root of the problem so that it is gone for good.

I also offer Christian counseling for clients who want to integrate their faith into the healing process.
You’re in the thick of pregnancy or postpartum, and it’s nothing like you imagined. Maybe you expected it to be hard, but not this hard. You’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, touched out, or disconnected. Sex might feel like the last thing you want, or like another thing you’re “failing” at. You might be grieving a birth that didn’t go as planned, a loss that others have forgotten, or the version of you that existed before motherhood. On the outside, you’re functioning. But inside, you’re struggling. You’re craving support that actually gets it: not just surface-level support, but real healing for your mind, body, and nervous system.

McCurry also has advanced training and certification in Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples therapy as well as training in Christian Integration Therapy for those who desire this approach.
Many men are holding within themselves a heavy weight of pressure, self-criticism, feeling not good enough, perfectionism, and walking an impossible line of how they believe they should exist. In an effort to avoid or numb this heaviness, men will withdraw from others, compromise their authentic self, and then lose themselves in trying to find the right “motivation” whether in self-help books or Youtube videos, and can ultimately feel even more overwhelmed, exhausted, worthless, and stuck. Dr. McCurry helps men face themselves to discover who they are at their core: authentic self, creative self, and masculine self.

Navigating life with all of its twists and turns can be very overwhelming. It can be difficult to figure out which pathway to choose towards stability, understanding and comfortability. I believe we can find our way by connecting our emotions, thoughts and feelings to our reality. I am passionate about slowing down our thoughts, engaging our emotions and finding connection points along the way.

My approach integrates clinical insight, pastoral care, and long-term recovery work.
You’re stuck. You keep going back to porn. You don’t know why. You're tired. Tired of hiding. Tired of failing. Tired of pretending Sunday morning is fine when Saturday night wasn't. Maybe it's porn. Maybe it's something you'd never say out loud. Maybe your wife just found out and you're both bleeding. Maybe you can't even name what's wrong — only that the man you thought you'd be by now hasn't shown up. You've tried harder. You've prayed more. You've promised yourself you'd stop. It hasn't worked. There's a reason. You’ve tried harder. You’ve prayed more. You’ve promised yourself you’d stop. It hasn’t worked.

Do you feel like the same scene is playing out in your life over and over again, but an inability to change the script? Do you feel powerless in managing confusing and intense feelings and difficulty in understanding why you feel this way? ARE YOU STRUGGLING IN RELATIONSHIPS? I am a psychotherapist specializing in Holistic trauma-focused treatments for adults, and couples. I believe that most people who walk into the therapist's office have difficulties that are rooted in trauma. Most traumatic experiences happen in the context of a relationship and can also be healed in the context of a safe therapeutic relationship.

It's easy to judge. It's more difficult to understand. Through judging, we separate. Through understanding, we grow. (Doe Zantamata) Therapy can be hard, it can be awkward, and it can be messy, but it's also where the magic happens to self discovery, healing, forgiveness and strength. Do you struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, or just to see the light? You are not the only one, and you do not have to sit in the dark alone. In therapy I use researched based treatments such as EMDR, solution focused and CBT techniques to help you live as your best self. I will meet you where you are at, and work toward your healing together.

Freedom Counseling is a combination of traditional counseling, but with a stronger, more dedicated biblical and spiritual approach.
You can expect a compassionate, understanding counselor whose strongest desire is to reflect the goodness of God to you as you work through pain, challenges, or difficulty. Our goal is not to simply offer coping skills, but to help connect you with God as the Source of all healing, hope and transformation.

Christian Therapists
Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?
Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same belief system or background to be able to work effectively together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience in tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of culture, religion, and other factors on each individual.

Why is it important to find a therapist sensitive to Christian values?
Each person brings a unique history and background to therapy, making it important to find a licensed therapist who is trained in a broad range of treatment modalities. In addition, for people who grow up in a faith tradition that strongly influences the way they conduct their everyday life, finding a therapist who understands or shares that background can ease the disclosure of sensitive information and facilitate the therapeutic process. For some clients, a Christian therapist is likely to incorporate faith-based principles into emotional healing techniques.

How do I recognize an effective Christian therapist?
Christian therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s or doctoral degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—who are also familiar with Christian beliefs and values. They have an understanding of the importance that Christian principles play in the lives of individuals and families, which allows them to be especially sensitive to the kinds of struggles that can affect daily functioning. Like all effective therapists, a Christian therapist will have undergone training and certification in a variety of treatment modalities that help people through crises and enable them to master the challenges of life.

Why might someone feel comfortable with a Christian therapist?
While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, research has long established that a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic success. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who not only is responsive to questions and concerns but also shares a client’s faith and values. Sensitivity to spiritual matters as well as to everyday struggles can provide a welcome sense of safety and contribute to the bond between client and therapist, both of which support the therapeutic process.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Christian therapists?
The directory of Christian therapists includes professionals who have shared their background in their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Christian clients, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation.
