I utilize play therapy and art therapy techniques for children and teens, talk therapy, EMDR, and Brainspotting to help clients address a history of trauma or to just focus on day-to-day functioning.
I have extensive experience working with children and families. I spent 3 years working in a middle school, so I'm understanding of the preteen and teenage years. I'm empathic to the struggles that children and teens face, as well as the adults who parent them. As the mother of two teenagers, I know first-hand how hard parenting can be in today's world.

I love to incorporate art, dance, yoga, and music into my work.
I help people find environments where they can thrive. This includes work, school, home, nutrition, movement, creative outlets, relationships, and hobbies. I think most symptoms bubble up when our environment can't meet our needs but we still feel stuck there. I focus on many body based techniques designed to reduce activation.

As an art therapist, I provide opportunities for self-expression and exploration of identity as a way to discover your strengths and work through challenges.
Have you ever felt like the tasks in life can be impossible one day, and easy the next? Are you at a loss when it comes to how to actually do self care? Do you feel like you struggle more than others with routines and to do lists? The challenges and stressors in life can often leave us feeling on edge and burnt out — especially when living as a neurodivergent person in a neurotypical world. I am here to help you on your journey to finding joy, growth in self identity, and coping with the ups and downs of life.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
