I help others with anxiety , depression, grief, and trauma, and my work is heavily influenced by attachment theories and Compassion Focused Therapy.
Life can be confusing, stressful, and overwhelming. A good therapist can create a comfortable, collaborative space to help you explore obstacles and strengths and find your stride in a chaotic world. My goal is to give you a place where you can foster self-awareness and learn to access the resiliency that can help you move forward. I see how insecurities and conflicts in interpersonal relationships can cause anxiety , and I'm compelled to help people resolve these issues. We are much more than our problems. Everyone deserves the ability to express themselves and feel more connected to themselves and others.

You've handled anxiety in the past. You pushed through, kept your head above water, survived. You've shrugged off healthy habits and are too tired to take advice like 'exercise, take breaks and have some fun.' You think, "I'll be better when (blank) happens." But will it? So you bury thoughts and feelings, keep moving, and distract yourself from exhaustion, cynicism and worst case scenario thoughts. What you need might not be more advice. You could probably use more motivation to deal with irritability and confront damaging self-talk. Is there any way to calm your anxious mind and be more kind and present with yourself and others?

I’m a generalist and often work with adults who are dealing with anxiety , depression, or relationship concerns. I like to keep a flexible approach with my client’s since every individual case is unique. Exploring relationships and how to build healthy ones, especially the relationship with one’s self, is a top priority in our sessions. I utilize a person-centered approach combined with cognitive behavioral and acceptance commitment methods. I’ve been practicing as a clinician since 2011. In 2021, I completed my Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D) at WKU.

The first step towards change is often the most difficult step to make, but so powerful. You may seek support now because you feel like your emotions are out of control. You may also feel the need to control your environment to prevent stress. This stress may show up in your body as anger, sadness, fatigue, racing thoughts, or difficulty concentrating. You may isolate yourself from people, places, and things to prevent anxiety . Maybe you have blocked out all or part of an event that you now struggle to understand. If you identify with this, you may be struggling to find balance in your life, following a traumatic experience.

As someone that, at different times in my life, has sought out therapy I can appreciate how difficult taking that first step to reach out can be. During these unprecedented times, many people are enduring feelings of depression, grief, and anxiety . My goal is to help you address these feelings and to develop appropriate coping skills to handle these times. I believe in a client/therapist relationship that helps you to be your best "you" by nurturing the tools and skills that already exist and helping you build a bigger "tool box" to work with.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
