My cognitive-behavioral training is the foundation for my therapeutic approach, but I also incorporate mindfulness, meditation, acceptance and values based strategies in the service of symptom reduction and improvements in life satisfaction.
I have worked in the mental health field for over 20 years in a variety of settings including community mental health and state government employee assistance. I've counseled individuals suffering from mood disorders, anxiety, work related stress and trauma. Through my employee assistance work, I have helped those struggling to deal with secondary traumatic stress resulting from repeated exposure to stories about abuse and violence. I'm available to work with adults and adolescents.

Have you been feeling stuck lately? Do you feel a little numb and unfulfilled? Overwhelmed and panicking? Totally shut down? Running up against the same barriers over and over and getting tired of feeling stuck in the same patterns?

Therapy is not MAGIC. It is a complicated process that requires commitment and active participation to be effective. Therapy can be uncomfortable and “emotionally draining” when HARD discussions provoke painful memories. However, when an individual does “the work” of therapy by identifying and disrupting destructive thinking patterns, which leads to changes in behavior, real MAGIC happens. This power to become a better version of oneself is the “magic” possessed by us all; the therapist is simply one who assists in “tapping” into that power.

You know you want therapy, but you’re nervous about choosing a therapist. What if you end up with someone you have to educate about your sexual orientation or relationship structure? Or someone who doesn’t understand your gender identity or respect your pronouns? What if your therapist is dismissive of how oppression has impacted your mental health, or can’t handle the trauma you’ve been through? If you've had these worries as you look for a therapist, I might be the one for you. The people whose lives don’t fit neatly into society’s boxes aren’t just my “clinical interest” – they’re my community.

Maybe you're here because you're tired of the same old message that you should be pursuing change in your body. Maybe you're seeking a therapist who will move beyond validation of experiences into self-regulation skills building and active pursuit of concrete goals to help you thrive. Maybe you're here seeking affirmation for who you are, or just need a soft place to land from the many stressors, oppressive experiences, and contradictions we encounter in life. If you are here to pursue healing empowerment, peace with your body and with food, or joyful pleasure even in challenging or unjust circumstances, you're in the right place!

Like characters from our favorite stories, we often get stuck when we encounter obstacles on the journey toward who/where we want to be. Perhaps you’re at a stuck point. Perhaps you’re dealing with shame, self-doubt, traumatic stress, grief, anxiety, emotional imbalance, unstable relationships, or an outlook that only seems to be hurting you. I have some good news: “stuckness” doesn’t have to be your destiny. Periods of “stuckness” may present as giants, but they are also opportunities for awareness, growth, & change. As your therapist, I want to help you navigate the obstacles impeding your journey, so you can move forward.

The transition into motherhood is hard, and it becomes even harder when things don’t go as planned. Add in the pressure to perfectly “do it all” and it’s no wonder women are often left feeling stressed, burnt out, overwhelmed, anxious, or depressed. Many of my clients come to me with goals of finding peace, gaining confidence, healing from past wounds, and changing the patterns that are keeping them stuck. Whether you are just starting the process of trying to conceive, in the throes of infertility treatment, pregnant, postpartum, or years into child rearing - I get it, and I can help.

There are times when a person simply needs a sanctuary in which one can focus on what is working and not working in life. Therapy is an ideal place for this type of reflection. Therapy is also an active process that requires considerable patience, empathy, and a willingness to explore those parts of ourselves that require some attention and perhaps even need to change. I believe that you hold within yourself the capacity for change, and I am very willing to journey with you as a guide toward a more healthy and peaceful way of being.
