Clients already face a societal stigma regarding
substance use
and mental health.
Walking through adversity with clients is my passion and calling. I partner with clients to increase their awareness of issues and empower them to develop the skills to manage these challenges. I believe that every individual has obstacles they will need to face, and that counseling is a valuable resource. Every individual has the ability to grow from their problems, whether it is
substance use
, mental health, relationships, work, finances, or emotional struggles. I help clients learn their potential and join them in their journey.

My specialty is
substance use
disorders and the associated co-occurring disorders. Recovery from
substance use
disorder is not simply a matter of discontinuing the use of a drug. Achieving quality and long lasting recovery requires a lifestyle change. Harmful behaviors need to be changed, ineffective thinking needs to replaced by rational thinking, and poor coping skills need to be replaced with healthy coping skills.

I specialize in Anxiety, Depression, Attention Deficit Disorder and
Substance use
.
My approach is laid-back, and person centered; the majority of the sessions I conduct are typically directed by the client. My own struggle with mental health issues began at a very young age. I have dealt with depression and anxiety- later figuring out that I had gone undiagnosed with ADD. I have personally participated in therapy services, and based on those experiences have tailored my approach to counseling based on what is most affective. We all deserve a safe space in which to be heard without judgement, and it is important to find a professional that you can relate to when you need help.

I have worked with individuals, couples, and families who are dealing with addiction,
substance use
, trauma, co-dependency, and other issues.
Life is full of decisions, every day is a choice. That is a mantra I have believed and lived by for many years. Sometimes the choice requires having the courage to begin again...start over...wipe the slate clean. I have made that decision myself which involved working against fear, insecurities, and many other obstacles. Life does not always give us the opportunity to make lemonade. Sometimes we have to throw away the lemons life dishes us and decide to make something new. I specialize in helping people from a variety of backgrounds with making those decisions and learning how to live with new perspectives, thoughts, and behaviors.

Your friends and family are worried about you and they don't even know how bad it really has gotten. You feel like you are living a double life and are exhausted from keeping it up.

Over the past 20 years of licensure, I have witnessed the impact anxiety, depression, and
substance use
can have on our families.
Life often feels like a series transitional periods and sudden changes happening all at once. It can be overwhelming, confusing and, sometimes, lonely. It is the way we move through those times in life that matters, and there is no shame in searching for support. As women, we often feel we must have every piece of life together and when one piece goes missing from the puzzle, we feel as though we have failed each step of the way. Little do we know, there is always hope.

Adults who suffer from Addiction, Alcoholism,
Substance use
and/or Co Occurring Disorder such as: Anxiety, Depression, Mood Disorder, Panic, are my specialty .
In my experience as a Therapist and also a Drug and Alcohol counselor most individuals know themselves better than anyone else . Sometimes we just need a little help getting there . Therapy is meeting a client where they are at . Then creating a joint vehicle of change where our thoughts and knowledge can combined to create a renewed roadway . There is value in every single person , even if they cant see it in themselves . There is joy in helping each other find our way .

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
