It has been a privilege to work with clients and loved ones through life transitions from divorce to death and everything in between.
Life often feels like a series transitional periods and sudden changes happening all at once. It can be overwhelming, confusing and, sometimes, lonely. It is the way we move through those times in life that matters, and there is no shame in searching for support. As women, we often feel we must have every piece of life together and when one piece goes missing from the puzzle, we feel as though we have failed each step of the way. Little do we know, there is always hope.

I also provide general counseling for those going through other major life changes, such as graduation, marriage, divorce , job changes, and coming out.
I believe in the healing power of a caring safe relationship. Together we create a safe space where you can feel your feelings without worrying about how they will affect others, where you can learn skills for coping with painful emotions and hard circumstances, and where together we make a plan so you can feel like yourself again. While I tailor what I do in counseling to your needs and goals, my goal is for you to feel more capable of living the life you want as a result of our time together.

During this Covid Safe at Home time, all sessions are conducted via telehealth. Sessions range from 30 minutes (younger clients) to 60 minutes. Insurance companies continue to cover tele-health during this time, so there should not be an additional charge outside of your typical co-pay. For children under 8, I work with parents and caregivers using Child Parent Relationship Therapy. This allows me to work individually with parents to teach skills so that you may work with your child at home. These skills are lifelong skills, which most find to be extremely helpful!

There are always reasons why people do the things they do. My approach is to help alleviate shame and unnecessary guilt by helping clients understand the “why” behind their emotions and behaviors. I use a trauma-informed approach with all my clients and aim to create an emotionally safe space to explore vulnerable thoughts and feelings.

Divorce Therapists

How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?

Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?

There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioral, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?

When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
