I have experience working with clients of all ages, but most of my clinical practice has focused on adolescents and young adults. I consider this a specialty of mine and I really enjoy working with clients in those age groups. I especially enjoy working with clients who are struggling in social relationships, with life transitions, and adjusting to new environments. I have experience working with clients on issues including anxiety, depression, behavioral issues, parent-child relational problems, trauma, and
adolescent
substance abuse.

I provide support and skill building so that parents develop effective responses to their
teen
's challenging emotions and behaviors.
My work with women and parents is based on one simple belief: we all are capable of finding joy and satisfaction. And the right therapy can help. Overwhelming stressors, unhealthy relationships and patterns of self-sabotaging behaviors frequently get people off track. I work with clients to select the right approach to help them achieve their goals. As a therapist with over 20 years of clinical experience, I offer psychotherapy with an emphasis on mindfulness. I am also certified in EMDR.

I have experience working with individual counseling services for
adolescent
ages 14+, LGBTQ, adult clients, and diverse cultural backgrounds.
I believe in a person-centered approach when working with clients. In sessions I like to explore client’s strengths and weaknesses to facilitate growth in each area. I consider myself to be a very psychoeducational therapist, meaning my clients can expect to learn both inside and outside of sessions with supplemental resources or homework materials. I also believe in meeting clients where they are—no matter where you are in your journey or stage of change, human growth and development is lifelong. Are you ready to take this next step in your life?

clients at National Youth Advocate Program in central Kentucky and today continue to serve clients of all ages and backgrounds at Intrust Healthcare in Lexington, KY. Please feel free to reach out to me directly for more information.

I believe in focusing not just on the individual client but the whole family in treatment, offering not only one on one child counseling, individual
adolescent
and adult counseling, but parenting and family sessions. At times individual sessions are the best approach due to the unique needs of the client, these being offered for children, adolescents and adults. With over 17 years of experience in counseling, I continue to greatly enjoy helping each individual take a step towards healing and the wholeness for which they were designed.

I have spent most of my career working with adolescents and consider this to be a speciality of mine. However, I also love working with adults and children. It's tough to be a kid or
teen
right now and it's tough to parent a kid or
teen
. The more motivated a young person and their family are to improve, the more successful we are in therapy. It will go best when everyone is (1) honest enough to really get to know themselves, (2) empathetic enough to care about the effects their choices and actions have on others, and (3) brave enough to do things differently so they can feel better, have healthier relationships, and enjoy more successes.

Many of us struggle with anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, etc. that effect our daily lives, all of which can have a profound impact on our ability to manage mental health and maintain healthy relationships with others. This is especially typical in
adolescent
years when the strive for independence and formulation of personal identity often creates conflict within family systems, issues with self-esteem, and interactions with peers. While I see clients of all ages, I enjoy working with teens struggling to find themselves while navigating the numerous changes experienced during adolescence.

I have professional experience in the public school setting and I am dedicated to partnering with
adolescent
clients' educational support systems such as guidance counselors to maximize this support.
As your therapist, my goal is to empower your inherent strengths and abilities. I use a person-centered approach to guide sessions based on your priorities, concerns, and goals. Rather than focusing on the negative, I prefer to highlight my clients' strengths and successes. I believe that each of my clients has a unique perspective with their own intersectional identities, so I view my clients as the experts of their own experiences.

I have a wide range of experiences and feel confident working with clients experiencing issues in the following areas: addiction, depression, relationship issues, child &
adolescent
issues, sexuality, bereavement, anxiety, and codependency.
I love my work and enjoy offering my clients a safe and supportive environment for them to grow and explore themselves. My style is both conversational and relational. I offer an authentic presence within a collaborative, lively relationship in which self-discovery can be non-threatening and perhaps, even fun. I am committed to sharing everything I know which I believe will help heal the difficulties in one's life. I am inspired each day by the courage clients have each moment they show up for therapy. I became a therapist because, to me, the value in life comes when you return to your value within.

When your
teenager
stops talking to you, bring them to me, and hopefully, we can make some progress together!.
We all have an internal pressure cooker that holds strong feelings and repressed emotions. This is especially true with today’s adolescents and teenagers. When anxiety, fear, depression, and outside stressors fill their barometer up, they reach a boiling point of eruption that plays out in extreme anger, defiance, substance abuse, addictions to social media and screens, overeating, and other destructive behaviors.

What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
