I most enjoy working with adults on a variety of concerns including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, disordered eating and body image, and perfectionist tendencies. My ideal client is someone who is ready to get to work and motivated to change. They also might describe themselves as a people pleaser or a person who cares for others before caring for themselves.

Many of the clients I work with are people who feel like they’re carrying a lot. You likely hold yourself to very high standards, or maybe you feel responsible for fixing problems and keeping things running smoothly for the people around you. While these are great strengths, you feel over time they have lead you to feel anxious, overwhelmed or disconnected. You may find yourself wanting more balance, healthier relationships, and the ability to let go of constant pressure while still being the caring, capable person you’ve always been.

You love your baby yet some days you catch yourself thinking, “Why didn’t anyone tell me it could feel like this?!” Motherhood can bring sleepless nights, constant pressure, and emotions you didn’t expect. You might feel overwhelmed, touched-out, anxious, or like the version of you before motherhood has disappeared. You don’t have to carry all of this alone. Therapy can be a space where you feel seen, supported, and slowly reconnect with yourself while learning how to navigate this new season of motherhood.

You might look put-together on the outside while feeling anxious, numb, overwhelmed, or disconnected inside. Maybe control has become your coping strategy—overachieving, perfectionism, overthinking, or strict rules around food/body image. When everyone assumes you’re fine, it can be hard to ask for help. If you’re here, you’re not looking for quick tips—you want to understand what’s happening beneath the surface and create lasting change.

If you’re looking for a therapist who will hype you up and lovingly call you out when you’re stuck in the same patterns, welcome. I’m Tabitha Simpson, LCSW, founder of Healing Roots Therapy Services, and I believe therapy works best when you get to show up exactly as you are. Messy thoughts, dark humor, anxious spirals, overthinking at 2 a.m., all of it is welcome here. I’m not a blank slate therapist who just nods quietly. I’ll laugh with you, sit in the hard moments with you, and gently challenge the stories that keep you feeling stuck. Think warm, grounded, “I’ve got you, and I’m not letting you avoid the work” energy.

I work with women who feel stuck in the cycle of emotional or disordered eating and are ready for a different approach. Many of my clients are high-functioning, self-aware, and frustrated that “knowing what to do” hasn’t translated into lasting change. Whether you are navigating patterns of restriction, overeating, or constant food noise, we focus on understanding the deeper drivers behind your behaviors rather than relying on quick fixes. I also specialize in supporting women who are in perimenopause or menopause, where shifts in hormones, mood, sleep, and body composition can make eating and body image feel even more complicated.

Welcome to my practice. My goal is to meet you where you are and help you navigate your way to a more peaceful, meaningful and purpose driven life. Facing the pain of current and/or past hurts and challenges can feel overwhelming. I, too, have personally walked this road and know that healing and peace are possible. Being in toxic relationships and stuck in old patterns can take an immeasurable toll on a person’s mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being, oftentimes leaving a person feeling stuck and ruminating - not knowing who they are in their own skin.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
