As solution-focused therapists, our goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

I have deep respect for each person’s unique life journey.  Because of this, I practice with a strengths-based, client-centered approach.  During sessions, I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can talk through their challenges and work towards practical solutions that make sense to them. In addition to working towards practical solutions, when appropriate, I also try to encourage clients to look deeper to identify the root causes of their problems. I have been trained in trauma-informed care, and I have experience working with diverse populations and treating a wide range of clinical issues.

A layer that is manifested in maladaptive coping skills (chemical dependency, poor self-talk, dysregulated behaviors). Clients need to be validated, accepted, and seen. My clients tend to be adult men who may be struggling with developmental or incident-based trauma. They may be military veterans or first-responders that are using substances to help manage life’s stressors. Many are neurodivergent or are questioning that possibility. Maybe they have a mood disorder they’d like to better manage and want some help working through some common life challenges. Or maybe they aren’t struggling at all but simply want to do better at work, in relationships, or with their physical health/mental wellness.

Many of the clients I work with are people who feel like they’re carrying a lot. You likely hold yourself to very high standards, or maybe you feel responsible for fixing problems and keeping things running smoothly for the people around you. While these are great strengths, you feel over time they have lead you to feel anxious, overwhelmed or disconnected. You may find yourself wanting more balance, healthier relationships, and the ability to let go of constant pressure while still being the caring, capable person you’ve always been.

Substance Use Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
